Kindergarten: This week, in the spirit of Fall, we began to discuss the difference between coniferous and deciduous trees. We went on a nature hunt around our campus, and tallied the total number of coniferous and deciduous trees we spotted with the help of binoculars. 1st Grade: This week we had our first visit to the Pe'ah garden with Mrs. Kabat! We assessed the state of the garden, and harvested any crops that we saw. We begin preparing to replant the garden for the new season! 2nd: This week we continued to learn about plants by getting our hands dirty in the Plaza Garden. We harvested mint, and removed all of the dead plants in preparation for planting on Mitzvah Day. 3rd Grade: Due to parent conferences, we did not have class this week! 4th Grade: This week we continued to learn about the different body systems, and focused on both the skeletal and muscular systems. 5th Grade: This week, we began analyzing our result from the water filtration challenge. We are going to reflect on the process and complete our water unit next week. 6th Grade: Due to the 6th grade retreat and parent conferences, we did not have class this week.

Kindergarten: This week, in the spirit of Fall, we began to discuss the difference between coniferous and deciduous trees. We went on a nature hunt around our campus, and tallied the total number of coniferous and deciduous trees we spotted with the help of binoculars.
1st Grade: This week, we continued our study of the parts of a plant by completing a flower puzzle. We also went to the Plaza Garden to make observations, and harvested some of our mint and basil. 2nd Grade: This week, we collected data from our light and dark plant investigations, and drew conclusions about how plants grow in different conditions. 3rd Grade: This week, we continued to learn about habitats by creating an Australian Outback Terrarium which contains different native plants from Australia. We also talked about our bearded dragon, Bernardo, and how he and others of his kind survive in their habitat. 4th Grade: This week, we continued to learn about the body systems by focusing on the digestive system, it's parts, and how they all work together. 5th Grade: This week, we continued to work on our Water Filtration Design Challenge. Many of the groups began testing and improving their designs in order to get their water supply as clean as possible. 6th Grade: This week, we answered some of our cell questions from the beginning of the unit, and began an investigation of how to grow mold on bread. Kindergarten: This week, we explored structures of plants with magnifying lenses and discussed our observations and predictions. 1st Grade: This week, we discussed our observations from our Nature Scavenger Hunt from last week, and learned about different plant adaptations. 2nd Grade: This week, we continued our discussion about what plants need in order to survive, and began our light and dark experiment with potted plants. 3rd Grade: This week we continued our unit on different habitats, focusing on the desert. The students completed a Venn Diagram comparing and contrasting deserts and our hometown of Los Angeles. 4th Grade: This week we finished our video on the 5 senses, and completed an activity on the different parts of the eye and their functions. We also learned about our bearded dragon, Bernardo, and focused on how he uses his senses. 5th Grade: This week, we continued our Water Filtration Design Challenge. The students explored different materials they could use, began their research and started to put together blueprints. 6th Grade: This week, our students continued to learn about some of the greatest discoveries in biology, including the discovery of cells and microorganisms. They also began to learn about the different parts of plant and animal cells while putting together models of each. Kindergarten: This week, we explored how the sun affects water, and observed temperature changes with thermometers we watched water turn from its solid form into a liquid.
1st Grade: This week, we learned about our school environment by taking a nature walk around our campus, and collecting evidence of plant and animal life here at Wise School. 2nd Grade: This week, we began our seed germination experiment by place seeds in sunny and dark places, with and without water. We will check on the progress of our seeds next class, and discuss what seeds need in order to grow. 3rd Grade: This week, we learned about freshwater habitats, and discussed how plant and animals in those areas adapt to their environments, 4th Grade: This week, we learned about the 5 senses, which was an introduction to our upcoming body systems unit. 5th Grade: This week, we began our Water Filtration Design Challenge by learning about the different types of pollutants found in water, and participating in a role-play where each student added a particular pollutant to our "class lake." 6th Grade: This week, we learned about some of the greatest discoveries in biology, including the discovery of cells and microorganisms. |
