The students experimented with different light activities such as creating designs using pattern blocks and mirrors, kaleidoscopes, colored cups, and making bracelets using UV beads that change from white to different colors when they are exposed to UV light! 2nd Grade: This week we learned about physical and chemical changes. The students conducted multiple experiments using heat such as melting chocolate, boiling water, making pancakes, and using air pressure to capture and then remove an egg from a flask! 3rd Grade: This week we learned about magnetism. The students talked about the different poles of a magnet, attraction vs. repelling, and participated in different magnet-based activities. 4th Grade: This week we learned about weathering and erosion. The students discussed how land changes from weathering and erosion, and began to look for examples here at school and at home. 5th: This week we went over our chemistry test, finished our white powder experiment, and learned about volcanoes. The students talked about the difference between magma and lava, as well as how volcanoes form and erupt. They are very excited to simulate a volcanic eruption next class using clay, baking soda, and vinegar! 6th Grade: This week we went over our tests on thermal energy, and learned about simple machines. The students explored different types of simple machines, and their uses.
