Kindergarten: This week the other Kindergarten class came to visit the lab for the first time. We observed all of the animals in our room, and began talking about forces. The students experiments with pushes and pulls using tennis balls and ramps made from poster board. 1st Grade: This week we began our unit of physical science by focusing on sound. The students learned about vibrations, how the ear works, and made sound using rubber bands and cans. 2nd Grade: This week we began our unit of physical science focusing on the properties of matter. We classified objects based on their properties, and practiced using adjectives to carefully describe things around the room. 3rd Grade: This week we began our unit of physical science focusing on balanced and unbalanced forces. The students learned about forces, and used different materials around the room to practice finding balance. 4th Grade: This week we began our unit of physical science focusing on energy. The students learned about kinetic and potential energy, as well as the equation to calculate the speed of an object. 5th Grade: This week we began our unit of physical science focusing on compression. The students learned about how air molecules can be compressed, and they used syringes to compress marshmallows using only air. 6th Grade: This week we continued our unit of physical science on thermal energy. The students experimented with heat conduction and insulation by taking the temperature of water in containers made of different materials over time. The students will have their first vocabulary quiz on Tuesday, September 21st.
