Kindergarten: This week, we learned about polymers by creating slime out of borax powder and liquid glue. The students were able to make their own slime and took it home for further experimentation.
1st Grade: This week, we went to the garden. We planted seeds from cauliflower and other vegetables to grow new vegetables. 2nd Grade: This week, we continued to build our student-designed kites. We are looking forward to testing them very soon! 3rd Grade: We did not see 3rd grade this week. We look forward to seeing them next week! 4th Grade: This week, we worked in the plaza garden. We helped prepare the soil by removing unwanted pests like pillbugs and other slugs. We also added new soil for new basil plants to be planted. 5th Grade: This week, we continued to work on our element research projects. 6th Grade: We are continuing to work on science fair. The students were finishing their abstracts, editing their documents, and began workin on their trifold boards.

1st Grade: This week, we continued to learn about light. We discussed artificial vs. natural sources of light, and experimented with translucent, transparent, and opaque objects. 2nd Grade: This week, we continued to build our student-designed kites. We are looking forward to testing them very soon! 3rd Grade: This week, we began defining problems that could be solved by using magnetic devices. Students collaborated in groups to come up with possible solutions to these problems in anticipation of their Engineering Design Challenge using magnetism. 4th Grade: This week, we researched morse code and telegraphs and began designing our own morse code machines using light, sound, or both. 5th Grade: This week, we began the final phase of our chemistry unit by conducting research on different elements. Students selected an element of their choice to research and present about to the class. 6th Grade: We are continuing to work on science fair. The students began writing their abstracts and began bringing in their trifold boards. PreK: This week we learned all about the human body. We talked about our different body systems, and what we can do to make our bodies healthy and strong.
Kindergarten: This week we did not have class due to scheduling conflicts, but are excited to see them after break! 1st Grade: This week we continued to learn about light and sound, and explored both through different activities. 2nd Grade: This week we continued working with our kites. The students improved previous designs and created new ones made out of new materials. 3rd Grade: This week we continued our study on magnets. We designed magnet experiments using the scientific method and tested one another's experiments. 4th Grade: This week presented our findings from our article study last week from Super Science. 5th Grade: This week students finished their chemical change experiments, as well as their Brainpop presentations. 6th Grade: Students are working on their data summaries and conclusions at home, and we are troubleshooting any issues with students on an individual basis along the way. PreK: This week we learned all about the human body. We talked about our different body systems, and what we can do to make our bodies healthy and strong.

We learned about sound waves, and practiced making sound with different tools and instruments. 2nd Grade: This week we continued working with our kites. The students improved previous designs and created new ones made out of new materials. 3rd Grade: This week we continued our study on magnets. We designed magnet experiments using the scientific method and will be testing them next week. 4th Grade: This week we worked in the garden to help plant and resoil. We also used our Super Science magazines to read different articles and take notes to present to the class about different scientific phenomena. Each group will be presenting next week. 5th Grade: This week students tested their matter experiments about chemical change. They recorded their results and drew conclusions that they will be sharing with the class. 6th Grade: Students are working on their data summaries and conclusions at home, and we are troubleshooting any issues with students on an individual basis along the way. PreK: This week we learned all about the human body. We talked about our different body systems, and what we can do to make our bodies healthy and strong.

We compared the properties of water ice and dry ice, and observed them changing states. 1st Grade: This week we went to the garden and learned all about bugs. We made a bird feeder, and released ladybugs into the garden to help reduce the aphid population. 2nd Grade: This week we continued working with our kite designs but creating tails to help them fly higher. 3rd Grade: This week we continued our study on magnets by designing experiments using the scientific method. 4th Grade: This week we talked about different types of waves, and how waves are measured. 5th Grade: This week students began planing their own matter experiments about chemical change. They will testing next week. 6th Grade: Students are working on their science fair trials at home, and we are troubleshooting any issues with students on an individual basis along the way. The students continued their in-class research project, which focuses on the life and accomplishments of a great scientist of their choice. PreK: This week we learned all about the human body. We talked about different sources of light, and experimented with refraction and reflection activities. 2nd Grade: This week we began designing kites as a part of our unit on forces. We look forward to building and testing our kites in the coming weeks. 3rd Grade: This week we continued our study on magnets by beginning to come up with questions that we would like to test using the scientific method. We will be creating and testing our experiment designs next week. 4th Grade: This week we finished testing our earthquake-proof structures, and completed a structural analysis on our designs. We began our next unit which focuses on different types of waves. 5th Grade: This week we continued our matter and properties unit by learning about dry ice and its properties. The students designed experiments to test their own questions relating to dry ice, and tested them in class. 6th Grade: Students are working on their science fair trials at home, and we are troubleshooting any issues with students on an individual basis along the way. Kindergarten: This week we began to focus on the animals everyone is researching for their animal projects. We focused on the cat family, and learned about various types of wild cats. 1st Grade: This week we began our unit on sound. We experimented with turning forks, sound pipes, and participated in other sound-related activities. 2nd Grade: This week we participated in a Lego design challenge, to work on understanding how small parts can make up multiple structures. 3rd Grade: This week we continued our unit on forces. We learned about magnetism, and explored what types of materials are magnetic. 4th Grade: This week we continued building our earthquake-proof structures. We are excited to finish assembling them and begin testing them next week! 5th Grade: This week we began our unit on matter and its properties. We learned about matter, conducted an inquiry activity, and the students were assigned a Brainpop to take notes on and present to the class next week. 6th Grade: This week continued to work on our Science Fair projects. The students should now begin testing their experiments at home. Their trials need to be completed by April 4th. PreK: This week we learned about the human body. We talked about the different body systems and how to keep our bodies healthy and strong.
1st Grade: This week finished our unit on the sun, and began our unit on sound. We experimented with turning forks and other materials that make vibrations. 2nd Grade: This week we continued to learn about simple machines. We watched a BrainPop about different types of simple machines, and learned about different inventors and inventions. 3rd Grade: This week we began our unit on forces. We learned about a specific new icebreaker that has been created to help break up ice in the Arctic. We also experimented with different amounts of force to thrust a balloon across the room. 4th Grade: This week we began building our earthquake-proof structures. We are excited to finish assembling them and begin testing them next week! 5th Grade: This week we launched our stomp rockets. After our initial launches, we redesigned and relaunched to see if we made any substantial improvements. 6th Grade: This week continued to work on our Science Fair projects. The procedure section was due on Friday, March 4th. The students can now begin testing their experiments at home. Kindergarten: This week, we continued to learn about animals while brushing up on our ABC's by watching a video that named an animals starting with each letter of the alphabet, as well as its many characteristics.
1st Grade: This week continued to learn about the sun and how it appears to move across the sky. We also used our sundials to tell time. 2nd Grade: This week we continued to learn about simple machines. We experimented with pulleys and a catapult, and identified other simple machines that we use in our daily lives. 3rd Grade: This week concluded our unit on weather and climate. The students identified the differences between the two, and watched a video talking about climates around the world. 4th Grade: This week we began designing our earthquake-proof structures that we will building and testing using our bran new shake table! 5th Grade: This week designed and built our stomp rockets, and are ready to launch next week! 6th Grade: This week we finished our research section of our Science Fair Project, and began to formulate our hypotheses and procedures. PreK: This week, in honor of February being Dental Health Awareness Month, we learned all about teeth! We talked about why we have teeth, how to take care of them, and compared the different shapes of animal and human teeth. Kindergarten: This week, we continued to learn about animals while brushing up on our ABC's by watching a video that named an animals starting with each letter of the alphabet, as well as its many characteristics. 1st Grade: This week we visited the garden to help tend to our crops and remove overgrown plants. 2nd Grade: This week we learned about simple machines. We experimented with a few different types of simple machines, and are connecting what we are learning to the invention project for their Heroes unit. 3rd Grade: This week continued to learn about the weather in different areas around the world. We made bar graphs representing the different temperatures throughout the year in different areas around the world. 4th Grade: This week we began learning about earthquakes, and read an article about how engineers build structures that are shake-proof in earthquake-prone areas. 5th Grade: This week we turned in our Night Sky Journals, and began designing stomp rockets using what we learned about gravity. 6th Grade: This week we solidified our science fair topics, began conducting research on our topic and its related elements. |
