Shabbat Shalom Families!
We started off our week celebrating Noah's 3rd Birthday!! Everyone wore birthday hats, ate snack, and sang happy birthday. Throughout this week, we talked about Tu B'Shevat. We explained that it is a birthday for the trees and talked about all the things that a tree gives us. It gives us fruit, flowers, paper, furniture, shade, decorations, and oxygen. During circle time, we showed the children pictures along with the explanations as well as sang some songs about Tu B'Shevat. The song talks about planting a seed, watering it, and growing. Along with that, it gives us directions to stretch (just like a tree grows, make a sun, rain to water the trees, etc). We continue this discussion throughout the day and especially during snack time. Everyone is already showing an understanding of what Tu B'Shevat is and what we are celebrating. To expand on the topic, we made our very own plants that we are patiently waiting to grow. We got to dip cotton balls into water, place it in a bag, put two lima beans into the bag, and then picked a spot to tape it on our window. Twice a week we are going to be watering our seeds and every moring the children come in and are so excited to see if their seed has grown at all. For an art activity, we painted our hands and forearms to be the "trunk" of the tree. Everyone then got to paint on their own vision of branches. After it dried, the children used glue to put dots on their tree and then used tissue paper to decorate our cherry blossom tree. All the children are continuing to grow in so many ways! During our afternoon goodbye circle, we started something new and exciting. One child gets to pick a story and read it to all their friends and then they get to lead the Shalom Chaverim song. This week, Noah, Paisley, and Dylan got to have their turns. Today, we had an earthquake drill and everyone practiced it so well. We also got to go to temple and celebrate Shabbat. Reminders: -No school on Monday, January 18th for MLK Day -No school on Tuesday, January 19th for Professional Development Day. Wishing you all a wonderful long weekend, Shabbat Shalom, and we will see everyone back on Wednesday, January 20th. Michelle & Jen
