We started of the week with a lovely visit from Jules’ grandmother, Caroline. During her visit she did music and movement with the children. The children were introduced to two new vocabulary words, Largo which means slow and Echo which is a sound heard again and again. Caroline practiced these terms with the children by making slow sounds then having the children repeat after her. They did this so that they could warm up their vocal chords. After that they did a warm up for their bodies using a rainbow ribbon stick. The children also had a chance to use their sense of hearing while listening to sounds of rain and wind. The music engages the children’s brain while stimulating neural pathways associated with such higher forms of intelligence as abstract thinking, empathy, and mathematics. Music's melodic and rhythmic patterns also provide exercise for the brain and help develop memory.
As we have continued to talk about the holiday of Thanksgiving we have discussed in more depth what it means to be thankful. The children are enjoying the opportunity to share with their friends what they are thankful for. As well as with Cantor Emma during our visit with her this week. Many of the children enjoyed working together to create the body of our classroom turkey. They have also started to select the color feather they want to put on him. We are looking forward to seeing him happy and plump up on the wall. We had a lovely Shabbat this past Friday with Maya Triphon and her family. While in Temple we enjoyed singing with Ditza and saying the blessings with Rabbi Josh.
