This week many of the children have been requesting that we read books about dreidels. While reading the books we have enjoyed taking the time to explore how the dreidels spin. Does the size of the dreidel matter or is it the shape? Many of the children worked together to spin various size dreidels to see what made them spin better then another. The children discovered that smaller, heavier dreidels were easier to spin and they would spin longer than big dreidels.
We have continued to sing and discuss the holiday of Hanukkah. This past week we have begun to examine the oil that lit the Hanukkiah for eight nights. Over the next week we will be examining different types of oil and studying how they differ. We enjoyed celebrating Shabbat with Liana and her family in the classroom. While in Temple we sang songs while Jen played her guitar and listened to a story told by Ditza about the miracle of the Hanukkah light that lasted for eight days and eight nights.
