The children continued to discuss the holiday of Simchat Torah, which means “The Rejoicing of the Torah.” The children enjoyed our all-school celebration where the Torah’s were taken out for us to look at. Later in the week we had another opportunity to go back to Temple to explore the Torah’s in more depth. We talked about the special paper that is used to make the Torah scroll as well as the yad or pointer to follow along when reading from the Torah. During our time in the Temple the children were given a hands-on experience with the Torah, learning the parts of it, how it is made and what it says inside.
Many of the children have been enjoying the warm weather this week with lots of water play during our yard time. Please be sure to check your child’s box to make sure they have extra changes of clothes. Even though it doesn’t feel like it, fall is right around the corner. We have begun to use our sense of sight to look at fall colors. We plan to explore what other of the five senses we will use during the fall season. We are looking forward to doing a lot of this sensory exploration on our patio, and it could get messy, so please dress your child appropriately or send an over shirt that can be kept at school. Outdoor play spaces can stimulate children’s imaginations and engage their sense of curiosity as they explore their physical surroundings and learn in ways beyond what they can experience indoors. The play that occurs outdoors uniquely contributes to learning in young children. Painting at the table and easel, building, coloring with chalk and getting the dirt ready for planting and gardening are just a few of the activities that will take place for the children in the weeks to come. We had a lovely Shabbat, baking challah and saying the blessings in class. While in Temple we sang Shabbat songs while Jen played her guitar and Rabbi Josh told us a story. Shabbat Shalom
