Hello Families,
This week we continued our Purim celebrations. The children have had so much fun putting on necklaces and making noise with the groggers in the classroom, so we made our own costumes and groggers. The children love finding "treasures" in the sand outside, and picking up sequins one by one is great for fine motor development, so we used the sequins as an offering to the children who wanted to paint a crown. We also made groggers with tissue paper and glue that we will use next week at our big Purim celebration. Lastly, we visited the hamantaschen factory where the children could make their own cookie. This activity required great patience and care, so we visited in small groups. Everyone had a turn rolling out dough and cutting out circles. This was very familiar to them since making shapes with play-dough is a very popular activity in our class. Then, we "painted" the outer circles of the dough with water so that the sides would stick together. We gently placed a small dollop of jam or placed a Hershey kiss in the center and lifted the dough to make a triangle. We pinched the sides together so that we could no longer see what was inside and put the trays in the freezer overnight. Friday we got to eat our final product! Everyone loved enjoying the fruits of their labor, and we are so impressed with how careful they were while making their treat. We have observed many sweet interactions on the yard this week. Many of the children have been playing mommy and baby. Outside, they set up the big blue blocks as beds to take care of each other. They love to pretend to be doctors and checking to see if a friend is sick by feeling their forehead. They give their friend medicine and a shot in the arm, and tell them to go to sleep. We have also seen the children show a desire to make sure their friends are happy, either by reaching out to play or showing concern when it seems something may be wrong. We saw this when Jonathan checked with Judd to see if he was done using his dinosaur, as he saw that someone was wanting to have a turn. It was so sweet to watch Hudson excitedly take his friends to show them their pictures on the wall they and to see Orli offer to Enya to help decorate her sandcastle with leaves. Kenny has been making sure that each friend has a blue block to lie down on when they (the baby) feels sick. We are so happy to watch these friendships continue to grow! Thank you so much to the Sabetfard family for celebrating Shabbat with us! Reminders: -This Tuesday, we will be dressing up for our Purim celebration. -Please make sure your child's box is restocked with clothes. As the weather warms up, we may play with water outside and we want to make sure everyone has dry clothes to change into.
