We spent time this week continuing discussions about the holiday of Sukkot. We enjoyed a visit to one of the Sukkah’s on campus with Cantor Emma. While in the Sukkah Cantor Emma sang some songs with us, talked about Sukkot, what it is, what we can do inside a Sukkah and shared a Lulav and an Etrog. She taught us the blessings that we say over the Lulav and the Etrog and she showed us how you shake the Lulav when you say the blessings. After that many of the children had an opportunity to try shaking the Lulav and Etrog themselves.
We also spent some time introducing the Holiday of Simchat Torah. We look forward to further discussions along with a celebration next week in the Sanctuary together. We look forward to seeing how the children’s ideas about Simchat Torah progress once we’ve celebrated in the Temple. Many of the children began sharing their desire to make challah early on in the week. When Shabbat came on Friday they were so excited. They spent a lot of time perfecting their individual challahs. Many of the children also enjoyed working together to decorate our Shabbat table in class. While in Temple we sang Shabbat songs with Jen while she played her guitar. We also enjoyed seeing Rabbi Josh and listening to his story. Shabbat Shalom Tricia, Julia and Tania Reminders Monday, October 21st School closed for Simchat Torah
