We hope that everyone enjoyed their Thanksgiving holiday. Now that we have said good-bye to Thanksgiving we are beginning to welcome the Festival of Lights. We are having a great time joining the friends in room 23 to listen to the Hanukkah story and sing along to the songs. The children have been busy this week painting dreidels. We are also discovering the science of how dreidels spin and will continue to delve deeper into the subject over the next couple of weeks.
Many of the children enjoyed building with the Magnetic Tiles. The Magnetic Tiles are an open-ended construction toy that really allowed many of the children to create open home structures as well as various form of transportation for the animals that they brought to the table. The Magnetic Tiles offered the children the opportunity to develop a whole range of skills such as the ability to build two and three-dimensional shapes. Once the children were done with the first level of their structures, some of them added a second and third level for the animal’s homes. Some of the children also, worked on creating a partial roof allowing for the animals to have a cover but, be able to stay on the top level because they were too large to be covered completely. Some of the children really enjoyed collaborating with each other to figure out different ways they could give the animals more space to move around in the homes. Other children felt it was important to build up the wheeled Magnetic Tiles so that they could transport the animals from one structure “home” to another one. We enjoyed a simple Shabbat in class creating Hannukiot out of playdough and decorating our table for Shabbat. While in Temple we sang Shabbat songs with Jen while she played her guitar and listening to a story told by Rabbi Sari.
