Shalom Ulpanon Bet Families,
The teachers started the week with professional development day, investing in Wise curriculum and partnering with the architects on The Aaron Milken Wise New early childhood campus. We had the opportunity to share our ideas on this exciting project and will continue to collaborate in future planning. Emergent Curriculum Highlight: One of our Ulpanon friends brought etrogs (citron) and pink lemon fruit to class. The children began asking each other questions as they held the fruit, smelled the fruits, and expanded the discussion: “These are citrus fruits.” “Hey! That’s what we had in the Sukkah!” “Do you know that I also have those trees at my house?” “What can we do with them? They’re so big! Can you eat them? I bet we can make pink lemonade, but it can be called something else.” “If you scratch the outside, it smells like lemon.” “Did you know that the fruit only grows in winter? But only when it’s sunny.” “Pretend you have a fruit then pretend all the fruit it became winter so they all grow. That is how it works.” We put out different art materials and the children enjoyed creating “still life” drawings of the fruit. They also used Unifix blocks to measure the height and circumference of the fruits, promoting further discussion. We will continue to explore our etrogs... During calendar time, one of the children asked, “When are we going to count to a hundred (referring to the numbers on the calendar); another child said, “Let’s see how many days are in January.” The children discovered that there are 31 days in January and we can count to one hundred on the class number chart. The children enjoyed teamwork, counting together and figuring out the numbers. During Music with Ditza, the children had fun singing Tu B’Shevat songs, including Gina Li (A Garden for Me) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KMMR2-qD_6Y. Important Dates:
Shabbat Shalom and have a wonderful weekend. B’vracha, Meirav and Shoshi
