Dear Parents,
We welcomed the children back with open arms and huge smiles. We hope you had a restful break and a Happy Pesach. This week we discussed a special birthday, Yom Haatzmaut, for a special place to all of us, the Land of Israel. We talked about the kotel, the Western Wall in Jerusalem and how it was a holy place to the Jewish people. We worked on our Yom Ha’atzmaut journal page. We learned the word degel, flag, and we showed the children both the Israeli and American flags, discussing the similarities and differences in colors and shapes. We also learned about the Magen David, the Star of David, which we can create from two triangles that are turned to make a star. When we discussed why Israel was important, one of the children said because it is the home of the Jewish people. We talked about how old the children think Israel is. They threw out a lot of numbers including 2016, and 2017. We told them Israel is 69 years old. We then asked them to guess how old America is. Going based off of the number we just gave them for Israel, they guessed 69, and also 2016 and 2017. We told them that America is older than Israel, and that America is 240 years old. The children got to share with us the fun they had during break, here are some of the fun things they shared: I sang the four questions at the Seder, watched the Passover movie, Hawaii, Chuck E. Cheese, visited my grandmother, watched a Mickey Mouse movie with my mom, circus, I sang in Hebrew, Disneyland, Mexico, Adventure City and had fun playing with my toys. We had PE with Coach Danny where the children played volleyball with a net for the first time. The children had to toss the ball over the net to a partner on the other side. They had to use longer hand motions and stretch their arms further to reach to the other side. They practiced hitting the ball, tossing it in the air and catching it, working on their hand eye coordination. In Music with Maestro we sang Am Yisrael Chai, David Melech Yisrael and Shir Mishpacha. The children had fun singing the song in opposite ways; it was their idea to “trick” Maestro. They were engaged when they sang Shema, closing their eyes to sing it, which was beautiful to watch. Thank you to our Library Reader, Olivia’s mom, Jenna, she read us “When Mama Comes Home Tonight,” “Are You My Mother?” and “Sammy Spider’s First Trip to Israel.” Can you believe that it is almost the end of the year? We started to teach some of the songs we will be singing at the celebration. Thank you to Sawyer and his family who helped us celebrate Shabbat.
