Dear Ulpanon Bet Families,
This week, we extended our Shavuot lesson. We drank Chalav ooh D’vash - milk and honey. The children described the sweet taste and the clean look of the white milk and said that the Torah is like milk and honey: sweet, clean, pure and pleasant, and that is one of the reasons we dress in white and eat dairy products on this holiday. We also shared that Shavuot is Chag Hakatsir - the Harvest holiday - when the fruits are ripe and ready to be picked from the trees. We talked about Bikurim, a basket of nice fruit that was brought to Beit Ha’Mikdash - the Holy Temple - during the holiday. Ulpanon Bet had a sample of a beautiful Bikurim basket with real fruit. In honor of Shavuot we made fruit salad. Each child made their own bowl of fruit salad, choosing their individual fruits. It was fun to chop, mix and eat. On another day, we made Pizza in the tradition of eating dairy foods for Shavuot. During PE with Coach Danny, we started a new unit about tennis; we learned the terms forehand and backhand. We practiced individually and in groups. We also ran laps to get some of our energy out. In class we completed a Shavuot journal page and a page about Ulpanon Bet; each child had an opportunity to share something they enjoyed this year in class. Rabbi Sari visited us and asked the children to share a mitzvah from the Torah. After the children shared some mitzvot, the Rabbi told us a Shavuot story of the dialogue between God and Moshe when the Ten Commandments were written. God told Moshe that these words from the Torah are important words for B’nei Yisrael to follow for years to come. We had fun at music with teacher Ditza; we sang some of our favortie Hebrew songs, including the Aleph Bet song (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XtDIFvN05oc). In addition, we and sang a song and added sign-language hand movements to the song ‘Red, White and Blue’ in honor of Memorial Day. Happy 5th Birthday to Liel and Jacob; thank you for bringing yummy cake. Thank you to Sebastian Olshansky and family for ushering in Shabbat with us. Reminders:
