Shalom Ulpanon Bet Families,
We had a very exciting beginning of the new year. The children are already reconnecting with their friends, getting to know their teachers, and embracing their new classroom routines and weekly responsibilities, jobs and expectations. In class, we have been talking about Rosh Hashanah and the meaning of the holiday: New beginnings and the sweetness of a New Year. We have been focusing on holiday vocabulary: Tapuach - apple, Dvash - honey, “Dvora”- bee, and more. We also discussed the tradition of the Holiday and sang: Tapuchim B’Dvash - Apples dipped in Honey - and the Shofar song. We asked the children what we could do with apples; one answer was “we can smoosh them”. The teacher then asked: “What would happen?”, and we collectively concluded that we can make (apple) sauce or juice. The children had fun making apple juice in class and baking mini apple cakes. Our time with our Specialists began, and we have enjoyed PE with Coach Danny and worked on our gross motor skills, balancing and coordination through three different activities: hopscotch, hula hoops and stilt walking. Music with Ditza was wonderful! We sang Rosh Hashanah songs and played musical instruments. Rabbi Josh visited our classroom and the Ulpanon Alef class joined us. He discussed the meaning of the holiday and shared a beautiful story of friendship, forgiveness and caring between two friends, Ariyeh (Lion) and Koffi (Monkey). The children are enjoying daily Israeli dancing in the classroom, and have already learned several dances: Adamah Ve’shamayim - The Earth (land) and The Sky, Eifoh Eifoh (Ey Oh) Hippo” - The Hippopotamus song. Please remember that we collect Tzedakah and Sova on Fridays; if you wish to contribute please send your child with coins or cans. On Wednesday, September 20th, in honor of Erev Chag Rosh Hashanah, we will dress in all white (or mostly white). It is also a shortened day, pick up will be between 11:45-12:00. This week it was Kol’s Special Shabbat Thank you to the Bachsihan family for celebrating with us! The children enjoyed having guests and singing the guest song: Ba Oreach, and more fun Shabbat songs. Reminders: · Wednesday 9/20, dress in white/mostly white. · Wednesday 9/20 dismissal 11:45-12:00 · School will be closed on Thursday 9/21 and Friday 9/22 in honor of Rosh Hashanah · Liam’s special Shabbat is 9/29/17 Shabbat Shalom and have a nice weekend!
