Chag Sameach Ulpanon Bet Families, We had a short and busy week here in the Ulpanon Bet class. We talked about Yom Kippur and the meaning of saying sorry to someone we may have not treated right. We read the book, “Hamila She’Hachi Kashah Le’Hagid (The Hardest Word, by Jacqueline Jules), which tells the story about how difficult it is to say sorry. The children understood the ‘Big Idea’ of the holiday and were ready to share from their own experiences: being unkind to siblings or an animal, not listening to a parent, taking a sibling’s toys or personal item without asking.
During Tashlich in Ulpanon Bet (over a kiddie pool) we practiced one of the traditions of Yom Kippur, where we throw away our bad choices and promise to make better choices in future. The children were inspired to draw on a paper something they were sorry for, and then threw the papers in the water, watching the drawings dissolve and the ink and words wash away. For the school fundraiser dedicated to Beit Issie, the children enjoyed creating artwork by painting and putting their handprints on the paper. You will receive information on how and when to order the prints. We enjoyed PE with Coach Danny and continued to work on our hand-eye coordination while playing ball: throwing and catching, shooting basketballs to the basket hoops, and jumping, skipping or hopping while throwing the ball. We introduced the holiday of Sukkot and its symbols. We will deepen our learning of the holiday next week. During Music with Ditza, the kids enjoyed learning new Sukkot songs, including Patish, Masmer (Hammer and Nail). Here is the link for this and other traditional Sukkot songs for children. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9gHcYnjzO0U Reminders:
We hope you all have a wonderful holiday! Shabbat Shalom V’Chag Sameach, Meirav and Shoshi
