This week students completed many Hanukkah activities! They used different geometric shapes to make a dreidel or a Jewish star. Students were challenged to think of all the different combination of shapes they could use! Students listened to some Hanukkah stories where they completed their own Hanukkah book. In Mrs. Katan's class students learned all about the story of Hanukkah! In math students played some games to practice their numbers 1-10. Next week students will start with numbers 11-20. We ended our week with our fun Hanukkah Party! Students enjoyed eating latkes, making candy dreidels, and decorating cookies. They also played a few games like pin the candle on the menorah, dreidel, and Hanukkah Roll and Cover, and Hanukkah Bump. Upcoming Events12/17 Spirit Day

We started this week by getting together with our 6th grade buddies! Our buddies helped us make a Hanukkah present! Be on the look out for a very special present coming your way during Hanukkah!! In math students learned about size and position. We made guesses to see if different classroom objects can fit in boxes of different sizes. We used position words such as on top of, next to, behind, under, in between to describe where different objects are located. We also talked about our day using words before and after to describe different parts of our day. Next week we will be doing many different Hanukkah activities in class! This week students were very busy with many fall and thanksgiving themed crafts and activities in preparation for Thanksgiving! They completed their fall masterpieces, made leaf printed shirts, pilgrim and indian hats. In math they worked on creating patterns as they made their necklaces in preparation for their Thanksgiving feast! This week in math students learned that fewer means less. They compared different groups of objects to find out which group has less. They also learned how to find how many in all for a group of objects. In hebrew with Mrs. Katan, students continued studying the family as we prepare for Midor L'dor. Students created beautiful family trees! They also enjoyed having pretend telephone conversations with Mrs. Katan to converse about who is home/not home. 11/25 Midor L'dor. Early Dismissal at 12:00pm 11/26-27 Thanksgiving Holiday This week students were introduced to their 6th grade buddy! The kindergarten students had a chance to have snack with their buddy and get to know them! Kindergarteners also had the chance to be creative as they worked with together their 6th grade buddy to make special placemat that they will use during their Thanksgiving feast! This week they also had phonics (letter f) and handwriting practice! (M & C). In math students counted and practiced ordering numbers 1-10, showed different numbers using their hands, practiced finding out how many more, and practiced the vocabulary of one more. In Mrs. Katan's hebrew class students have been learning the hebrew words for different items in the home as well as names for Jewish items in the home too. In Mrs. Stones Hebrew class Yaldey Hagan recognized Hebrew letter sounds and vowels. Upcoming Events11/16: No School/ Professional Development
11/24: Kindergarten Thanksgiving Feast! 11/25: K-6 Midor L'dor 12pm Dismissal This week students were excited to visit the book fair! We have enjoyed seeing their excitement towards books! We wanted to congratulate Radin Davidi and Laila Javid for winning the bookmark contest for kindergarten!! Students had the opportunity to hear guest author Kathleen Krull speak about her love for writing. Students learned deeply about what it takes to become an author, We hope she inspired some of our students to become writers! This week we focused more on the season of fall, the letter F, and students practiced making different words that end with "all." In math, students practiced ordering things by weight. They also compared different objects and animals where they used words such as light and heavy to describe them. Students also used cubes to find all the different ways they can make numbers 2-5. Students also had practice ordering numbers 1-10 and had practice with learning one more. In Hebrew with Mrs. Katan, students are learning the names of their family members as well as different parts of the house. In Mrs. Stone's Hebrew Gan, the students practice writing the Alef -Bet. 11/24: Kindergarten Thanksgiving Feast! 11/25: K-6 Midor L'dor 12pm Dismissal This week we started our unit on the season of Fall. Students listened to a story that was all about the things that happen in the fall. Students were the authors and illustrators of their own fall book where they completed the sentence "Fall is....." Students also made a fall themed craft where they used tear art to make a tree with colorful leaves falling from it. They practiced the sight word of "the" as well. In math this week our focus was ordering things by size and length. In hebrew they started learning words to describe their family. We hope to see you all at Mitzvah Day on Sunday!! 11/2: Morning Assemby on the yard 8:00am 11/1-6 Wise School Book Fair, Hershenson Hall 11/4- Book Fair Guest Author: Kathleen Krull visits Wise School! This week students were introduced to many skills that are helping them be creative thinkers! We discussed what it means to be creative and how a person can become creative. Students learned special words that will help them think creatively. These words are: maximize, minimize, rearrange, substitute, and combine. Ask your child about the words that they learned! Students were given a picture of a shape and it was their job to think of a creative way to use the shape and turn it into something different. It was amazing how different each student's picture was! Students practiced writing the letters B and R. They also started working with the letter A. In math students were introduced to new math vocabulary of learning about one more, one less, and the same number. They practiced this skill with using number cards, counters, and playing games. They practiced the skill of using one-to-one correspondence by making sure each picture had its matching card or that each picture made a complete set. Lastly, students were ordering objects by size and learned the vocabulary of biggest, middle-sized, and smallest. Mrs. Katan's Hebrew students have been learning the names of the different body parts. Ms. Stone’s Hebrew students are becoming experts in conjugating adjectives in Hebrew using nouns that begin with the letter Bet. Upcoming Events10/26: Morning Assembly on the yard at 8:00
10/28: Parent Teacher Conferences/Early Dismissal at 12:30 10/29: Parent Teacher Conferences/Pupil Free Day 11/1: Mitzvah Day 9:00am-12:00pm 11/1-6 Wise School Book Fair, Hershenson Hall This week students learned deeply as they continued to study apples! Students became scientists as they made their predictions if the apple will sink or float. We learned that an apple can actually float! Students also did some apple tasting where they tasted a red, yellow, and green apple and decided which one was their favorite. To end our apple study, we made apple sauce. Students were eager to help out by peeling and cutting the apples. In math students practiced numbers 0-9. Students also compared numbers and found missing numbers. Students also had some more phonics practice with the letter S. In hebrew students learned the names of the body parts on the face (ex: eye, nose, ears, mouth etc..). 10/28: Parent Teacher Conferences/Early Dismissal at 12:30 10/29: Parent Teacher Conferences/Pupil Free Day We started the week with a special Simchat Torah service. Students celebrated by looking at the torah, singing, and waved the flags that they had made! Students learned more about Simchat Torah in hebrew as well and thought about what the torah teaches them! We started studying apples! Students are beginning to learn deeply about apple growth and the parts of an apple. We sorted apples in a variety of ways such as by size and color. We counted how many apples of each color that we had. Students will continue to learn more about apples next week! Students learned how to write the letter "D" as well as practiced writing and counting up to numbers 7 and 8 in math. Lastly, students visited the brand new Tyberg innovation lab for technology and art classes this week! They were very excited! Upcoming Events10/12: After School Enrichment Begins
