We began the week with the celebration of Havdalah with the EC community. Jen lead the service as the children joined in with prayer. It was a special way to end the weekend and begin our week.
It's so exciting to see the Sukkahs being built around our campus. After we read Sammy Spider's Sukkot, we tried to build our own Sukkah with PVC pipes! It was so much fun. We talked about different shapes we could make, how the pipes connected, and what we could put around our structures to make it a Sukkah. There's a few real Sukkahs being built around the campus; we took a walk to parenting and got to see it in the building process. They're a lot bigger than the ones we built in class! With the weather changing we're starting to talk about fall and the harvest and how it relates to Sukkot. We have so many things to be grateful for and to celebrate. The children are looking forward to having snack and playing in the Sukkah next week. On Tuesday our Wise Woods had some new things fun things added to the play structure. We took a walk to Udko Annex and had indoor play with Room 11 and 15. Soccer, Hopscotch, Puzzles and lots of running with our Explorer friends. We continued to build our Sukkah, you can see the construction in progress in the pictures below. Our class has begun still life art. We are using a 3-dimensional Sukkah as the model so we can construct our own on paper with glue, scissors and paper. Not all our friends are interested in sitting at the art center, they were too busy with their own building using the PVC pipes. However, that is ok. Expressing their own interests and taking that to the next level is what emergent curriculum is all about. Few housekeeping reminders. Please put your children in appropriate shoes. It is important for their gross motor skills, running, climbing and jumping. Girls need to wear shorts under their dresses and skirts. We spend time in the sandbox, this will protect them from rashes etc. It has been so wonderful to see all the long hair tied up in ponytails. Now we can see all those smiling faces. Wishing you a wonderful Sukkot Ren and Fern Reminders: School Closed Thursday and Friday, (October 5-6) Tot Shabbat Saturday October 7 School Closed Thursday, (October 12)
