Dear Parents,
We began the week by planting great northern bean seeds in the classroom with cotton balls and water in the plastic packaging that apples come in. We talked about the various parts of a plant and tree and how the roots drink the water, and from there grow the stems, leaves and flowers. We talked about how the beans will sprout and roots will grow, and they will eventually become a bean/plant/vegetable. These are some of the answers the children gave when we asked how the beans grow: shooit (beans); shoresh (roots); and what do the roots drink: mayim (water), shoresh shoteh et hamayim (roots drinking the water), leaves, flowers, prachim (flowers). When asked “where is the water?” one of the children answered, betoch (inside). The children have been coming into the classroom daily, excited to check on the progress of the various things that are slowly growing! We asked the children what comes from a tree and what in the class is made out of wood. Some of the answers they gave were the chairs, tables, and shelves. After we had yoga, we walked over to the soccer field outside Katz Pavilion and the children enjoyed running around the grass field and playing soccer, kicking the ball up and down the field to the goals on the opposite sides. We visited our friends in Ulpanon Bet, who were gracious hosts, and introduced the children to their potential future classroom and teachers. The children each had the chance to glue strips of newspaper on a light green piece of construction paper to create a tree, and once the glue dried, they picked to either glue beads to make “fruit” on their tree or to draw their own fruit on. Thank you to Jennifer, James’ mom who was our Library reader on Tuesday. We rounded out our week with our specialists, Art with Joanne, Music with Marcos (for the first time this year in the Music room), Yoga with Cheryl and Music with Ditza. Shabbat Shalom, Gali, Mira and Miri Reminders: Please make sure to check and replenish your child’s box. Please check that the clothing is weather appropriate and also still fits your child. Ariel is our Shabbat Aba on Friday, February 7th
