This week we introduced the children to the holiday of Passover. The children love the new songs and they are very excited to hear and explore more about the holiday of Passover in the next few weeks.
On Monday, the children loved helping to make light green cloud dough. They experienced the science of mixing two different ingredients to create one batch of dough. The cloud dough looks and feels like basic play dough but it is textured differently. It is smooth, soft and slightly stretchy. Moulding it in the hands is delightful due to the texture. It is so much fun to play with; you can pull the dough apart and roll it back together to form a smooth ball. You can squeeze it and it will squish through your fingers. We also had a lovely time visiting the library listening to Mona, Oliver’s mommy read Dr. Seuss There's No Place Like Space! A Book All About Our Solar System and Emmanuelle, Avital’s mom that read Oh, No! By Candace Fleming and Eric Rohmann. Many of the children began creating our Passover board by painting with brown paper and sand for the Egyptian desert that the Jews traveled across when attempting to escape from King Pharaoh. Some of the children also painted with various shades of blue paint and some silver to create the sea that parted for the Jews. During our second circle time on Wednesday, just before snack, we were remembering the holiday that just passed (Purim) and reviewing some of the new Passover information. During our discussion with the Passover flannel board story which was out on display, Tania pointed to the Pharaoh and asked the friends who the mean King was. Evie said, "Haman." Tania said that Haman was a mean man but not from Passover. Haman was the mean man that wanted all the Jews out of Shushan from the holiday of Purim. With a little help the friends remembered that the mean King that made the Jews work so hard day and night was King Pharaoh. Some of the children wanted to know what the Jews worked on day and night. The Jews were working to build pyramids. We showed the children some pictures of pyramids, Shiloh then said that pyramids are triangles like Hamans hat. Many of the children began chiming in with great excitement remembering that a triangle has three sides and not only was Hamans hat a triangle but Hamantashen are the shape of triangles too. This has sparked interest and curiosity about pyramids and we look forward to exploring and creating some pyramids of our own in class over the next few weeks. On Monday, we will collect food for our Passover SOVA drive, and we will visit our first ever SOVA market! Please send your child to school with an item to donate to the SOVA bin for Passover. We will visit the SOVA market on Witzman Court as a class to donate these items. Items to include can be: Kosher for Passover canned goods, macaroons, Kosher for Passover Cereal, Matza, Gefilte Fish. Please visit the market yourself to make a donation or to pick up a SOVA bag to then bring back and donate in our temple SOVA bin. We enjoyed a lovely Shabbat with Rylee this past Friday. In Temple we had a great time singing along with Ditza and enjoyed a Passover story from Rabbi Josh. Shabbat Shalom T & T IMPORTANT UPCOMING DATES TO REMEMBER
