We enjoyed starting the week with a lovely all school Havdalah service. After saying “good-bye” to Shabbat and welcoming the week we spent some time singing in Temple. During the week we continued discussing Israel. While introducing the holiday of Yom Ha’atzmaut last week the children were very excited to learn that the Israeli flag has a star in the center of it and that the star is called the Star of David. At the beginning of this week Tricia asked the children to recall what the star in the center of the flag was called Sammy said “it’s the star of Israel” and Ella A. said it’s the star of Hanukkah” then the children were reminded that it was the Star of David. Many of them laughed and said “oh yeah”.
We were very busy preparing for our celebrations of Israel’s 69th birthday listening to stories, singing songs, and tasting the different foods of Israel. Many of the children enjoyed helping bake a blue and white cake for Israel’s birthday on Tuesday. While preparing the batter for the cake one of the four eggs had cracked open in the bag they were in. This gave the children and Tania and opportunity to problem solve. They had to figure out how they were going to get all of the cracked egg into the batter without any shells getting. The children decided it was best to use the good eggs and save the cracked egg until the end. The children also learned that egg shells act like magnets to other egg shells. Once the cake was done baking we enjoyed walking up to the Witzman yard where Jen played the guitar while Andrew played on a drum. The combination of the two along with the children from our class and all the other classes was so lovely to see and hear. We want to thank those of you that brought in items for our celebration. It was another lovely week of California weather which allowed us to enjoy our patio. The children spent a lot of time watering our plants and windows. The children enjoyed playing with the castles in the shade, as well as gluing and collaging. The gluing and collaging activities give the children an opportunity to stretch their imaginations as well as develop their reading readiness skills through distinguishing shapes, colors, and designs. Friday we enjoyed celebrating a quiet Shabbat. We missed our Shabbat friend Levi and his family but, would to thank them for the use of their challah. We had a lovely time in Temple welcoming back Rabbi Josh. We also enjoyed having Cantor Emma there to help sing and lead the Shabbat service as we danced around the Temple with our flags for Yom Ha’atzmaut. Shabbat Shalom T & T IMPORTANT UPCOMING DATES TO REMEMBER
