Hello Families,
This week we began talking about Purim. We love celebrating this holiday with the children because the story is so engaging, we have a lot of activities to accompany it, and we get to dress up. We listened to the Purim story and learned all about King Achashverosh's parties, the King's mean adviser, Haman (boo!), and how Queen Esther saved the Jewish people. We sang our Purim song, and the children love the lyrics of "here go the groggers rash, rash, rash!" They have changed the lyrics to sing about their peers saying, for example, "here comes Alexa ruff ruff ruff!" We asked the children what costumes they want to wear to celebrate the holiday. Jonathan said he will be a ghost, Orli will be Sofia the First, Liana would be Aurora, and Lewis will be Frozen. We painted big sheets of paper with black, silver, and glitter to make our Shushan palace. We will continue to decorate this area to make it as festive as possible. Next week we will continue learning about Purim and will make hamantaschen. All week long, our wonderful families have been bringing in Sova in preparation for our Generations Day mitzvah project. We read the book "Maddi's Fridge" by Lois Brandt which tells the story of two friends, Maddi and Sofia. Sofia finds out that Maddi's fridge at home is empty because her family does not have enough money to go to the store. Sofia becomes determined to help her friend obtain food, but must face the decision to either help her friend or to keep her promise to Maddi not to tell anyone her secret. It is a beautiful story about friendship. Thank you to all of the family members who came for our first Generations Day celebration. We were so happy to see the children show their special guests their classroom with such pride. We had a blast at temple with everyone and were so excited to be able to make cards (our contribution to the mitzvah project) at the art studio and decorate our SOVA cans and boxes. Thank you again to everybody who came to this special event and brought Sova throughout the week. It was so enriching for everyone involved! Have a wonderful weekend and Shabbat Shalom, Julia, Tricia and Tania
