The first full week of school and we took advantage of time. With the holidays behind us, we are gearing up for Fall and Thanksgiving. The classroom has the sweet smell of cinnamon and pine from our Fall Display table. This week we have started talking about five senses and looking in the mirror at our faces. The children are using the book, "Glad Monster,Sad Monster" by Ed Emberly and Anne Miranda to express themselves in the mirror. We have been working on self-portraits using pencils and paint. It is all about the process and not the product. Some new additions to our Fall Display table are things we can smell and think about if we like the smell or not. Everyone has their own opinions and our class has no shortage of that. This week we have also observed the children's problem-solving skills to have grown over the course of the last several weeks. On the yard we introduced tricycles and on a few occasions the tricycles have gotten stuck against things. Several of the children grouped together in order to figure out the best way to move it in order to get it back on the path. The children are also learning to use the water fountains outside and helping each other to push the button to turn it on as one friend drinks from the fountain. This has also been a very hot week. We are keeping hydrated on the yard during outside play time. The heat gave us a fun play activity. We had frozen our extra pineapple and bananas from previous snacks and we made smoothies with strawberry frozen yogurt and the fruit. They were so thick that we had to eat it with a spoon. They were really yummy and cooled everyone off before lunch. For snack on Wednesday the children tried something new. We made egg noodles with cottage cheese, an egg, salt and pepper. We baked it in the oven to crisp it up. Some ate and some just looked at it and choose yogurt with apples, but it is good to introduce them to new tastes and new foods. Even though Simchat Torah is behind us, when we saw Rabbi Josh this week we met in the Temple. He unrolled a Torah in order for the children to look at the writing, paper and talk about it. For room 12 it was exciting to see a Torah that was so big. The Torah in our room is smaller and we got to talk about the difference between the two and how similar they really are. All of the children had a chance to read from the Torah with a Yad. What a beautiful and special moment it was for each of them. As always on Thursday we dance and sing with Andrew. It is one highlight of our week. Room 12 gets very excited when they hear it is time to walk over and see him. It is hard to get them out of there when Andrew is finished. After Hallah baking all the children went shopping at the Beit Issie Farmers Market. All the children came with the Tzedkah money in hand to purchase fresh fruit and vegetable cups. They were so proud of themselves paying for the items and picking out the fruit they wanted. We talked about the money at the Shabbat table and how it helps others who need medicine, clothing and food. Friday was the first time this year we had a Shabbat Girl and Family. We got to show off our Shabbat feeling with Liora and her family. The children enjoyed hearing Liora's mom lead the prayers for us. Her voice is golden and sounds much better than Teacher Fern and Teacher Ren. Next week we welcome Ryder and his family. Shabbat Shalom and have a safe and relaxing weekend, Ren and Fern Reminders: **There has been a lot of runny noses and coughing in the classroom over the last few weeks. Please keep your child home for 24 hours after running a fever, vomiting or loose stool. Do not send them to school the following day. It is for their health as well as the health or the rest of the class. **Remember to bring your children in socks and sneakers. If you need to leave a pair of sneakers at school, we can change the shoes when they arrive. **Please make sure there are shorts under the girl's dresses and skirts. Sand can be very irritating. **Please leave your children's toys and jewelry at home. Unless it is a Lovie for your child to snuggle with at rest time. There is limited space in the cubbies and we need them for lunch boxes, backpacks and any notes to go home. We also don't want any of thing to disappear out of the cubby. **October 31: Half Day School, (No Hot Lunch), Parent Conferences. If you haven't signed up for a conference please remember to do so. **November 1: No School, Parent Conferences **November 5: Mitzvah Day **November 6-10: Book Fair **November 7 Pajama Day for the EC. Have your children come in comfortable PJs. All the teachers will be in their PJs too.
