Shabbat Shaolom Ulpanon Bet families, This week we have explored few things. We started talking about our self this past week: our name, how old we are, describing how we look and later on during the week we introduced the word autobiography, all about myself. During circle time each child had a chance to stand in front of their peers and share about his or her life. We also completed a journal page called: “Autobiography” where each child got to share with a teacher information about themselves. The children also got to look in a mirror and draw what they saw. It was so interesting to see how their self-portraits came out and hear them practice saying the parts of our body in English as well as in Hebrew. In class we are learning the names of basic shapes in Hebrew: eegool-circle, reebooa- square, malben- rectangle, kochav- star, and lev- heart. We have been playing “Ma Chaser?”- what’s missing? With shapes and playing a shape game during which each child has their turn to roll a die and gets to say the shape the die had landed on. We retold the Purim story to get familiar with the characters and plot. Thank you to Lital and David Ashkenazy, Liam parents for being our library readers and reading us Purim stories: “A Purim Story” by Linda Davis and “Purim Play” by Roni Schotter. We had PE with coach Danny and played : “All Touch Kick ball”- there were 2 teams work on kicking, running bases and passing a ball our hand/leg-eye coordination skills are sure getting better. During music with Maestro David we sang: “Im a movie star” and also worked on sequencing when the music teacher had us sing a different part of the songs. We also enjoyed singing about the names of family members, such as mom, dad, sister and brother, while saying them in Hebrew. Bean in a bag experiment update: we had moved the beans and cotton ball to a paper cup and asked the children why they think it will be a good idea to put it in a paper cup and they said: that it will have “an opening to grow” and “will have air”. We will be sending it home. Rabbi Josh told the children a story about George Washington that reinforced the lesson of telling the truth. A topic that is often discussed at this age, truthfulness is a very important lesson that we were fortunate enough to have the Rabbi come and reiterate. He discussed the Hebrew word for truth, “emet,” and told the students about how we apply telling the truth to every situation to make sure that we are positive contributors to our community. Thank you so much our Bader's mom for the dough, the time and the wonderful baking Challah with the kids. Reminders:
