Shabbat Shalom Ulpanon Bet Families,
This week we continued to explore Tu B’Shvat and celebrated this beautiful holiday with all Pre K classes, in the spirit of fathers and grandfathers. It was nice to see the proud smiling faces of the children when they got to spent time with fathers and grandfathers in school, and we, the teachers, had the real pleasure of getting to know your families even better. Thank you for celebrating a special Shabbat with us and making it a warm community that feels like one big family. In class the teachers asked the children what they need in order to grow. The children said: healthy food, water, sleep, home, bed, hugs and kisses. We then asked, “Do you think a tree a or a plant also need special things in order to grow?" All children came up with wonderful answers, that plants or trees need a home, a place to grow, water, soil, sun and love. We went on a nature walk to explore the various trees on our campus. The children spotted different trees: bare trees, with leaves, flowers, tall, short, soft. Each child had their picture taken with their favorite tree. At the end of day each child got a turn to present the picture and speak about why this tree was special to them. Huge Toda Raba to Danny Marks, Olivia’s dad and his parents Karen and Sandy for a very informative presentation about recycling. We learned about the process of recycling and about a special sorting place for: aluminum, plastic and glass. We got to do an experiment where we blended paper in a blender and then turned it back to paper, so we got to observe how to recycle paper. For this visit the children brought recycling items and Danny paid the children coins for returning recycling items. Danny also gave each child a bag to take home with recycled paper and the coins. We also go to plant this week. In special pots that the children decorated last week, the children planted seeds. They had a choice of: flowers, parsley, basil and tomato. “Shotlim” is the word for planting in Hebrew. We also completed a journal page for the holiday, the children drew a picture in honor of the holiday and got to share the information they know about this special birthday. We are continuing our observation for the “bean in a bag” experiment. Some of the beans have already sprouted, and we are looking forward for more change next week. We had a Pre k Seder and Rabbi Josh told us the story about Choni, who planted a carob tree and it took that tree 75 years to grow. The story teaches us to take care of trees not only for ourselves, but also for people after us . Rabbi Josh also explained how we actually have various blessings, depending on what foods we are eating. For example, if fruits grow on trees, the blessing would be “Bore Pri Ha’Etz” and if it’s on a bush, it is “Bore Pri Ha’Adama.. At the Seder we got to taste dried and fresh fruit. We had music with Ditza and we sang songs for Tu B’Shvat, we held flowers and pretended to grow like a garden. We did silly movements and had fun. Thank you families for bringing fruit items and for all your continued help and support. Reminders:
Shabbat Shalom and have a wonderful weekend. Talia, Meirav and Gali
