Shalom Ulpanon Bet families,
This week Ulpanon Bet friends learned deeply about Passover. We read the Pesach story and found out the meaning of the name Passover. The children discovered that when the 10 plagues were brought on Pharaoh and the Egyptians they “Passed over” the Israelites’ homes. We talked about Miriam, Moshe's sister, who told her mother that she will have a son, and that he will save Israel. Miriam led the women in dance and song in the crossing of the Red Sea with her tof Miryam (tambourine). The children learned how the people of Israel got water from the be’er (well) in the desert and that thanks to Miriam, the people had a ma’ayan (spring) of mayim chayim (fresh, living water) during their years of wandering in the desert on their way to Israel. They also were introduced to the more modern custom of having a Cos Miryam (Miriam’s Cup) filled with fresh water on the Seder table, alongside the traditional Elijah’s Cup of wine. In class we learned the “Ma Nishtana”- the four questions - and had a display of the items representing these questions of how this night is different than other nights (attached pictures). The children are singing the four questions and Passover songs throughout the day; their singing is contagious even during free play and art time. Malka Clement, our Hebrew coordinator visited us and taught us a song about the 10 plagues. The children were excited and happy to learn the song and share their knowledge about the holiday. During P.E with Coach Danny we practiced volleyball skills and stretched our arms to throw the ball to the other side of the net. Each child then got a turn to roll the dice and follow a prompt: jumping, crawling, hopping, etc. In class we introduced the Seder Plate- K’arat Ha’Seder - and talked about the symbols of the food, and that we eat this food to remind us of the Pesach story. We made Charoset in class using apples and dates. The children worked on their Passover Journal page. They drew a picture and shared with the teacher their perspectives about Passover. Our Ulpanon Bet friends visited the Sova food drive. The children were excited to participate and share food. Thank you for the food items and for your participation in the Tikkun Olam Mitzvah. We had conferences this week; thank you for your time and for helping us set your up child for success. We appreciate your great feedbacks and the open communication. Reminders:
Shabbat Shalom and have a wonderful weekend, B’vracha, Meirav and Shoshi
