Dear Ulpanon Bet Parents,
This week the children were introduced to Pesach, the Passover holiday. They began learning the story of Passover, with the evil King Pharaoh, who enslaved the b’nei Yisrael (the children of Israel) in Egypt. They heard about Moses, who was placed in a tayva (basket) on the river because his mother wanted to save him, and who was found by Pharaoh’s daughter and raised as her own son. The children of Israel worked all day and night building pyramids. They wanted to leave their hard life in Egypt, so Moses went to Pharaoh and told him to “Let my People Go!” (Shlachna et Ami!), but Pharaoh refused, saying “No! I will not let you go! (lo, atem lo tilchu mipoh). We started practicing Passover vocabulary, including some of the plagues, Ke’arat Pesach (seder plate), Layl Haseder (Passover eve), Haggadah, Nes Yam Suf (the miracle of the Red Sea), Matzot, and more. We also started practicing the four questions. The children dressed up as Pharaoh and worked on Passover art for our classroom. Links to songs the children are singing for Passover songs:
During P.E. Coach Hosler the children were divided into 4 groups, rotating between different games. They enjoyed bouncing, catching and balancing the balls on the trampoline-effect Boundaloons, catching and tossing with the Velcro paddles, passing and catching volleyballs and footballs, and practicing hand-eye coordination with the Catch-a-Ball baskets. Rabbi Sari visited the children and told the story of Bezalel, who found beauty in everything and who collected beautiful finds in Egypt and carried them through the desert to the land of Israel. Bezalel’s words to all were that “The world is full of beautiful things.” When God spoke told Moses to go back down the mountain and build a mishkan (a tabernacle – temporary sanctuary), a special room, and decorate it with purple, blue, shiny, beautiful things. Bezalel emptied his bag from Egypt and everyone else found something beautiful for the mishkan too. During Music with Ditza, the children sang Passover songs and the four questions. They also had a great time pulling, stretching and singing with the giant rainbow goomi (band). On Wednesday, Mason chose the books The Rainbow Fish, by Marcus Pfister, B Is for Bulldozer, by June Sobel, and Let My People GO!, by Tilda Balsley for his Library time. Thank you to Tammy Rusanow and Savta Susan for reading to us! Thank you to Lea Yasharpour and family for the donation of the book Chaverim B’Chol Minei Tzva’im. (Friends in Many Colors). Thank you to Abigail Tambor and family for helping us usher in Shabbat. Reminders:
Shabbat Shalom! Shoshi and Meirav
