Dear Ulpanon Bet Parents, In Music with Maestro we sang (to name a few) Oseh Shalom, Driving in My Car, and Shir Mishpacha. The children had fun singing the song in opposite ways, when he would say “ach” (brother) they would say “achot” (sister) etc. We asked the children why we have Mother’s Day, and these were some of their answers: “Because all the kids like their moms,” “Moms do nice stuff,” “Moms are sweet,” “Mom likes to spend time with us,” “To celebrate the moms babies,” “Because they like to play with you,” “Moms spend time,” and “Everybody loves their mom.” We started talking about Lag B’Omer and how it has some similarities to Hanukkah. We worked on various Mother’s Day items, writing Ima on our gift, and making cards. The children helped wrap their gift with tissue paper and ribbon. We drank mitz petel, raspberry juice, while watching a video of the story/book, Mitz Petel. We had Rabbi Josh, who spoke to the children about tallitot and the mitzvah of wearing one. He told them that when you’re 13 and have a Bar/Bat Mitzvah, that this is customarily when you receive your first tallit to wear. In some communities you don’t wear a tallit until you get married. It was nice to see the proud smiling faces of the children when they got to spent time with Mothers and Grandmothers in school, and we, the teachers, had the real pleasure of getting to know your families even better. Thank you for celebrating a special Shabbat with us and making it a warm community that feels like one big family. Reminders: Rebeka will be our library reader on Wednesday, May 17th.
