Shalom Ulpanon Families, The EC Teachers started the week with a Professional Development day (PD day for short). In one of the educational workshops, we had an inspiring talk with Early Childhood professors from the USC Rossier school of education, Dr. Sandra Kaplan and Dr. Pat Gallagher. In class, the children completed a journal page about Stav (Autumn). It was interesting to see the insightful words the children shared about the many aspects of Stav, like weather, clothing and nature. The children took time and care to draw a detailed picture. This week, we went on another nature walk to take a closer look at the trees. We decided to watch a special tree and to observe how it will change over time through the seasons, until the end of our school year. We took pictures of the tree for future discussion and comparison, and the children shared their descriptive words about their initial observation: “The tree has purple flowers,” “The flowers are also falling from the tree,” “The tree will be naked.” Stay tuned for our next season observation.
During our morning circles, our Toran Bracha (prayer monitor), leads us in the Modeh Ani prayer. Modeh comes from the word Todah (thank you). One of the children explained that we say thank you to G-D for waking up in the mornings. We then had a nice discussion of who else we can say thank you to. The children said we can say thank you to: moms and dads, teachers, friends and ourselves. We then extended the discussion and asked why we need to say thank you here are the words the children shared: “It’s a special word,” “because other people will say thank you,” “It’s also nice and you need to say please too.” The children had a blast throughout P.E. with Coach Danny. We played Rolling Dodgeball, where two children stand in the middle of a circle and the children around attempt to roll the ball towards the children in the middle. We worked on various skills: aiming, rolling, dodging and jumping. We moved, grooved and sang in Hebrew with Ditza. We sang: “Alim Noshrim Meha’etsim”. We made music with sticks and Tuki the bird joined us. It was so much fun. We visited the Beit Issie Farmer’s Market on Friday. In preparation, we read the book “A Circle of Smiles,” a book that depicts the story of Beit Issie and children with special needs, complete with photographs. In class we talked about the importance of giving Tzedakah and caring for each other. The children said that we are giving Tzedakah to Binaya, and we also discussed others that are in need of Tzedakah. The children noted that “we can give to someone that doesn’t have food or is sick.” At the shuk (market) they children enjoyed “purchasing” and eating the fruit of their choice. Thank you so much for your Tzedakah in contributing the food items. Reminders:
Shabbat Shalom! B’vracha, Meirav and Shoshi
