Shalom Ulpanon Families,
The teachers started the week with an all-staff professional development day. In addition to our educational workshops, we had an inspiring time with award-winning Early Childhood Music Specialist, Ellen Allard. We delved deep into the connection of using the gift of Music as a tool to support Early Childhood in the many stages of development: Cognitive, social, emotional and language, and we learned new songs to share with the children. It was a fascinating and uplifting workshop! Ulpanon Bet friends continued to explore Thanksgiving. We talked about the meaning of giving thanks, being sameach (happy), and appreciating the things we are blessed to have in our lives. We asked the children to share what they are thankful for, and why they say todah (thanks). Here are some of their responses: ”I am thankful for my grandpa for playing with me,” “I am thankful for my Eema (mom) for cooking for me,” “I’m saying todah (thanks) for my bayit (home). We are proud of the beautiful appreciation words the children shared. As we explored Thanksgiving traditions, including foods, the children asked many questions about corn, how it grows, why there are different colors in the Indian corn, which foods are made from corn (they guessed popcorn, taco shells and tortilla chips, including the blue ones). The children expressed a desire to create art that looked like Indian corn for Thanksgiving, and had fun using pencil tips to create the kernels and an ellipse shape for the ears of corn. They worked hard to press down the leaf cookie cutters in the paint and back to the paper to add to their colorful tiras (corn) art. We worked on our Thanksgiving Journal pages in class, where our friends drew a picture related to the holiday and shared their words. We were honored to visit with our Assistant Director, Lemor, in Room 20, where she read additional stories with the children about Thanksgiving, the Pilgrims, freedom and giving thanks. Specialists: Our children enjoyed being the first EC class to have PE with Coach Danny on the new turf grassy area/field next to the Katz-Pavilion. We had fun playing: “Kicking Knock Down.” The goal of the game is to knock down the ball in the middle, kicking a target while using eye-foot coordination, aiming, and kicking skills. Rabbi Josh shared the story of Jacob and Esau, the sons of Rivka and Itzchak (Rebecca and Isaac). He spoke with the children about the importance of talking about feelings instead of running away, and making good choices. The children then shared their suggestions about how they can make good choices and use kind words with their friends and families During Music with Ditza, the children had a wonderful time with the giant rainbow goomi (elastic/rubber) band. They pulled, stretched, turned and danced all together to the fun Israeli songs. They also sang turkey songs in Hebrew. Thank you to Noa Firstenberg-Khazaei and her family for helping us usher in Shabbat! Reminders:
Shabbat Shalom and have a wonderful weekend. B’vracha, Meirav and Shoshi
