Shalom Ulpanon Bet Families, It was an exciting and very busy week in Ulpanon Bet! The children continued to explore the magic of the fall season by creating beautiful fall pattern wall art with the items they collected and sorted from last week. We asked them to explain how they built their pattern using corresponding numbers to the leaves, twigs and other items they chose, and we posted their words on their art. The children are also working on their Fall Journal pages. The children arrived to school in pajamas, and celebrated Pajama day with a delicious Israeli breakfast! The children had fun making cheese burekas and eating them with Israeli salad, pickles, and corn. For a special treat, there was Israeli Milky – chocolate pudding - for dessert. Ulpanon Bet took a walk to visit the fabulous Yarid Sfarim - Book Fair, at the Temple, where they enjoyed perusing the shiny new books on display. They also happily read the book “The Book with No Pictures” by B.J. Novak. Wednesday was Abigail’s special library day. In addition to “A Mitzvah for Grover” that Abigail chose, the children had the opportunity to expand their Thanksgiving learning through the book “Pilgrims of Plymouth” by the National Geographic Society. The children enjoyed the visual experience of the Thanksgiving story and the Pilgrims’ journey through real, vivid, re-enacted photographs that depicted characters, clothing, and settings of the time period. They were able to connect to the pictures to see children just like them, working, helping and living during a different time. We continue to discuss the many facets of the Thanksgiving story in class, and the children continued to practice the Todah – Thanks - song. We read the book, “Mitz Petel” – “Raspberry Juice” - in class and enjoyed mixing and drinking raspberry juice. We also introduced the book Savta Shel Chana Banana Mevashelet Dysa – “Chana Banana’s Grandmother is Making Porridge.” (Please check our Weebly pictures each week for images of the books the children are enjoying). Specialists: In P.E. with Coach Danny, the children played “Toss and Catch” on the big yard. They practiced throwing the ball, bouncing it to the floor and catching it, calling out “1, 2, 3, Catch!” or “1, 2, 3, Bounce.” They worked individually and with partners on their hand- eye coordination, and waiting/anticipation skills. Rabbi Josh visited the children and told the story of Eliezer and Rivka (Rebecca) from the Torah, a story of empathy and kindness to all. He then connected the story to the children by asking them to share their own examples of kindness and compassion to each other. During Music with Ditza, the children enjoyed playing with varied Klei Negina – Musical Instruments to Hebrew songs; the accordion, chimes and symbols were particular favorites. Thank you to all of you for attending the Parent/Teacher Conferences and for your offers to help in our classroom. We appreciate you immensely.
