Shabbat Shalom Ulpanon bet families, This week in Ulpanon Bet, we went on nature walk. As we observed the weather, the children said, the weather outside was colder. We talked about types of trees that stay green all year, and we tried to spot the different trees. When we returned to the classroom, we asked the children what season is coming up. The children then wanted to sing Arba Onot - 4 seasons in Hebrew. After singing the song, they said that it looks like winter.
We discussed how we can keep our bodies warm; the children said we should wear a jacket and a scarf and eat warm soup. They thought it would be nice to cook soup at school. The children enjoyed cutting the vegetables. They learned the vegetable names in Hebrew: Kishoo zucchini, gezer carrot, and dalorit butternut squash. The children liked the yummy soup. While chopping the vegetables, one child said that homeless people don't have food. She suggested to sell some of our soup at the farmers market on Friday to help the homeless people. We put the soup in containers and offered it at the Beit Issie Farmers Market. After visiting the farmers market, we continued to talk about the importance of giving Tzedakah and caring for each other. The children said that we are giving Tzedakah to Binaya, and we also discussed others who are in need of Tzedakah. The children noted that, “we can give to someone that doesn’t have food or is sick.” At the shuk (market) they children enjoyed “purchasing” and eating the fruit of their choice. 100% of all proceeds are used to transform the lives of children with disabilities in Israel. Thank you so much for your Tzedakah in contributing the food items. During P.E with coach Danny, we played ‘Air, Land, Sea’ while practicing jumping in place, backwards and forwards, and listening and following directions skills. This time, Coach Danny challenged them with multiple directions; and the children enjoyed the challenge. They worked on strengthening their locomotor (gross motor) movements with the ACTIVE! It’s Your Move! Dice in two teams, taking turns to throw the dice individually and to follow the prompts as a group: Rolling, galloping, sliding, etc. We also practiced soccer skills, aiming, kicking to the goal and running. We had S’torah time with Rabbi Josh, and heard the story about Joseph and his 11 brothers. Joseph was the most successful of his brothers, causing them not to talk to him for many years. Then the brothers made T’shuva. We learned that T’shuva is when you understand you made a mistake and you change things around to make a better choice. Joseph did a Slicha, when you say sorry and forgive others. During music with Ditza, she played a game with the children, playing melodies of familiar Hebrew songs for them and asking them to raise a hand and guess the tune. We sang Do Re Mi in Hebrew and played with the parachute and bells. This week we celebrated our Shaliach from Israel Roy’s Birthday. Roy visits the room each week, reading Hebrew books to the children and conversing with them in Hebrew. We baked a chocolate cake for him and sang Yom Huledet Sameach. Thank you to Shiloh and her family for helping us usher in Shabbat. Reminders:
