Shabbat Shalom,
We began our week with Teacher Brock joining us for some songs, dancing and playing instruments. We then all worked together to make a new backdrop for our wall, which helped us transition into discussions about Passover. We read a Passover story and discussed how the Jewish people had to listen to Pharoah and no choices. Since he wasn't nice to the Jewish people, he was affected by the plagues. Finally, Pharoah decided to let the Jews go and they had to leave so quickly that they didn't have enough time for the bread to rise, which is how we got matzah. We also discussed what a seder is, how we participate in this special dinner and the different symbols we find on the Seder plate. We observed parsley, salt water, matzah, and eggs. Everyone tried the items and believe it or not, the parsley and salt water was quite the hit! Matzah was definitely a classroom favorite though. We have also begun the process of making our own seder plates, which you can find hanging on our wall, along with the afikomen. When we made the afikomen, each child decorated his/her own and then we worked on our fine motor skills by lacing the holes on each side. For one of the plagues (frogs), we painted paper plates and once again followed three step directions to complete our frogs with eyes and a mouth. This week we also discussed animals. Working on turn taking, following multiple step directions, and working together, the children chose to create an octopus, shark, fish, or turtle. In order to continue incorporating co conversations about colors, we made beach balls by following directions, using glue, and picking which color they wanted to use next. Since it is also spring, we painted mason jars and then decorated our own flower. This was another activity where we were able to work on our fine motor skills by crumpling the tissue paper. We also made butterflies using popsicle sticks and dot markers. Today, for Shabbat, it was Sam's special day. Thank you to the Levin family for bringing in snack and celebrating with us today. We also had the opportunity to go to the Farmer's Market today and each child picked out which fruits they wanted to have in their cup and donated their money. Thank you to everyone who sent in berries! We truly enjoy watching the children learn and grow each day. Please enjoy looking at all the pictures of everything we did this week. We hope you have a nice weekend and can't wait to see you on Monday! Michelle and Jen Reminders: -Spring Break is from April 18th-April 29th. -School will resume on May 2nd.
