Due to sickness last week, this week we continued to plant seeds and learn about all the parts of the tree and what each part does. Those children who didn’t get a chance to plant seeds did, and during group discussions we talked about what each part of the tree does to help the tree grow. Just like with the Torah, we compared the trees to our bodies. We started with the roots and compared them to our legs, went up to the trunk and our stomachs, then branches and our arms, and finally the tree tops (leaves) and our head. This comparison helped the children to understand each role the parts play in growing up, just like them. During center exploration they painted pictures of the mangrove tree and made trees out of green play-dough and sticks we had collected outside.
We also started learning about RAINBOWS. This started with one of our ocean books many weeks ago and reappeared again when it rained. Many of the children discovered that a rainbow isn’t just in the sky, but under the ocean and all over our environments. We learned that rainbows are created when light is refracted when it enters drops of water, then it reflects the colors back. During group time we played a color matching game where the children had to search around the room for their color. With our class it was a team effort, as they all like helping each other out. As a group we created a large rainbow painting using yard attached to sticks. Then children explored rainbows and color throughout the week with different activities. Some created rainbows out of paint, others with markers, and even with blocks. For snack the children made “Rainbow Banana Bread”, by using colored sprinkled to create the rainbow with the bread. It was delicious and pretty. Next week is father’s/grandfather’s week. We would love for dads and grandfathers to join us at any point during the week from 9 -10am to enjoy a special morning of play and learning with their children. On Friday please be our guests at a brunch @10 and Shabbat service @11 on Friday February 8th in honor of you! If dad or grandpa can not come please make sure that every child has someone to come to Shabbat. *REMINDER* - Cathy and Michelle are Library mom on Monday Feb 4th Shabbat Shalom, Courtney and Cindy
