This week in room 23 was a HOT one. We spent much of our outdoor time experimenting with water. Though it might look like your child is just splashing around, water play can help improve children’s balance and strength. It takes more muscle strength to move arms and legs through water then it does through air. Water play allows children to explore and interact with each other. New experiences and discovering new things within shared spaces offer a great opportunity for social development. As children play, they will be excited to communicate their discoveries to everyone around them. This is a confidence booster for kids! Because water play typically occurs in a limited space with few supplies, children practice sharing with each other and working together while engaging in play. Different bodies of water offer endless opportunity for physical experiments and discoveries. Children may have already investigated wood, dirt, sand, rocks, and other dry substances. But what happens when these substances are mixed, sifted or dropped with water? Children also get the opportunity to think about concepts like water displacement and volume as they explore in a body of water. Water supports a variety of life forms like fish and frogs, so water play can lead to new adventures as well, which is what happened after we came inside after one of our water play days.
A group of children were busy building with and knocking down blocks on the carpet, a teacher asked them what they were building and the response was “We don’t know”. So the teacher sat down and started building and slowly children started to gather and asked, “What are you building teacher Courtney” and Archer decided to respond with, “A boat.” So the children began to create a boat. Then the teacher started to place different animals on the boat and asked the children if they knew about Noah’s boat/Ark. Most said know and the story of Noah’s Ark began. We focused not only on the animals and the Ark, but on the rain that fell and what would happen if there was too much water? *REMINDERS* - Conferences October 31 & November 1 -Pajama day at school November 7th Shabbat Shalom, Courtney and Cindy
