In room 23 this week it was Matzah madness. All week the children have been learning about this traditional Passover treat. The children got to try out new and different ways of eating Matzah. The children even made their own Matzah pizza for snack. Cooking with children is a great way to discuss nutrition, our different senses, as well as different food groups. We also read two stories about Matzah during circle time. The first book was called, The Mouse in the Matzah Factory. This book was about the actual matzah making process through the eyes of a mouse that lived in a factory that was busy making Matzah to get ready for Passover. We also read the book, The Matzah Man. This was a fun story about a man made entirely of matzah. Storytime at school provides the children the opportunity to think creatively and to learn new vocabulary. The children were also busy preparing a top secret Passover item that they will take home to use during their own family Passover Seder. We have also continued to practice the Passover story and songs so the children are prepared for their Seders at home. This week was also SOVA week. On Tuesday the children all had an opportunity to go to our school SOVA market. Each one took a turn placing a food item in the large SOVA box. During our morning circle we talked a little about SOVA and what it means to do a Mitzvah, helping others. They all became “SOVA SUPER HEROS” for the day. The children came up with a few ways we can do a mitzvah for each other in class, like hugging a friend who is sad, or making soup for someone who is sick. This was a great beginning to when we come back from spring break when we will be celebrating Mitzvah May, a month on Mitzvot. Have a wonderful Passover and spring break and we will see you all back at school on Monday April 29th. SHABBAT SHALOM, Courtney and Sara
