This week was a short but fun week. The children were busy exploring new and old activities, strengthening their friendships, and learning and perfecting skills. Many of the children enjoyed creating art projects from paint, markers or glue, while others were constructing large buildings or forests from different types of blocks.
We continued with how to be a good friend and paying attention to each other’s emotions. Throughout each day, children experience a wide range of feelings. Sometimes they can experience them from hour to hour or minute to minute. It is important for children to be able to distinguish and understand the wide range of emotions they experience throughout the day. During one of our group times we read the book The Way I Feel by Janan Cain. This book helps children distinguish different emotions by using color. This conversation continued the following day when we read the Littlest Tree by Slyvia Rouss. The little tree talks about how he feels about being the littlest tree in a forest of big trees and how he wished he could be useful. The children also got to share about times when they felt happy, sad, angry or excited. In the coming weeks as we begin learning about Tu B’shevat and how we take care of things in our lives and all around us. We will also be focusing on community helpers: who they are and how they help us.
