Room 23 wasted no time jumping right in to our next unit which is learning about the holiday of Yom Ha’azamut, Israel’s Birthday. Our first project in preparation for this important celebration was recreating the Israeli flag so each child has one to wave proudly when we celebrate next Friday in temple. During this project the children were learning skills such as; following two and three step directions, and recreating patterns and designs. As a group they created a beautiful mural using many shades of blue and white and others made amazing blue and white collages.
Our classroom was also transformed into a mini Israel with photos, maps, books, music and even pretend Israeli money. They children enjoyed learning about the Israeli culture, foods, and music and of course more about the importance of Jewish values. On Thursday the entire Hoffman building became Kibbutz Wise. The children had a chance to experience a day in a Kibbutz like in Israel. We began in the airport and traveled to see a farm, hospital, dining hall/kitchen and then ending with the Western Wall where they put in their wishes. We concluded our celebration with a special Shabbat where we sang, danced and waved our flags to honor Israel’s birthday. Shabbat Shalom, Courtney and Cindy
