This week in Room 23 the children started a new and fun art project that is based all around the colors we find in the rainbow. Each day we have put out new colors of paper to be cut into little pieces. Then each child can take the pieces of cut paper and glue them onto the poster board. Cutting with scissors helps children build and control the small muscles in their hands. Cutting is an activity that helps prepare the children’s hands for writing. Gluing is a two-step process and the beginning of sequencing. Gluing also promotes certain math skills such as creating and recreating patterns. We will continue working on this Rainbow project next week and the children can’t wait to see the beautiful end result.
The children have also been anticipating the arrival of our butterflies each day the children have gotten their magnifying glasses and observed any small changes. One change that the children noticed was that the color of the cocoons has gradually gotten darker. We explained to the children at circle time that the cocoons will continue to darken and this means that the butterflies have almost fully formed and are getting ready to come out. We also celebrated the holiday of lag B'Omer. We talked to the children about why we have this holiday and that we celebrate it with a outdoor activities and a picnic. We were lucky to have our library mommies read to us outside all well. This week our special Shabbat friend was Michael. It is always such a pleasure to get together with one of the families and celebrate Shabbat in our classroom. We also wanted to take this opportunity to say a big thank you to all the families for the special Yom Hamoreh day they graciously put together for us. It truly was amazing and we had so much fun. Shabbat Shalom, Ari, Cindy, Courtney *REMINDERS* - No school May 29th-31st - Last day of school is June 6th
