This week was all about Thanksgiving. During circle time the children heard the story of the Mayflower and how the pilgrims arrived here in America. We also talked about what it means to be thankful. It all started with a book called “Give Thanks for Each Day” by Steve Metzger. It gave the children many ideas of what to be thankful for. Some said mommy and daddy while others said my baby or even ice cream. This conversation gave the children a chance to learn and use new vocabulary. This also allows them to strengthen their self-esteem and feel comfortable speaking and sharing ideas in front of a group.
Over the past several weeks you might have seen the children working with many different sizes and shapes of cardboard boxes. They have called this project “Box City”. It all started with four small boxes, two car ramps and a basket of cars. It slowly began transforming into many different experiences. One day they used animals, another cars and people. They even turned some of the larger boxes into cars they could ride in. Soon they decided to paint several of the boxes and started building structures together. They used many tools such as hammers, wrenches and measuring tapes for this process. While having a great time playing they also were learning. The children had to use their imagination and problem solving skills to create the city. They also used math skills to check the length, height, numbers and balance. While the children were building they we gaining social emotional skills like taking turns and engaging in cooperative play. This project is still growing and changing every day. Please come and look at the beautiful pictures on our wall of this process. Shabbat Shalom, Courtney, Cindy and Ari Reminders:
