It’s time!! Finally we cut open the pumpkins to see what is really inside. To the children’s surprise there were not just seeds but a messy, slimy and smushy substance. Some children used spoons and other tools to scrape out the pumpkin while other used their hands. By doing this the children were able to strengthen fine motor skills and learn concepts of texture, size, weight and of course new vocabulary. This was also a chance for the children to be comfortable exploring new materials that are messy and to have a wonderful sensory experience. After we had so exploration of the pumpkin we decided to cook it and have it the next day for snack. It was delicious. This week was also about Thanksgiving. During circle time the children heard the story of the Mayflower and how the pilgrims arrived here in America. We also talked about what it means to be thankful. It all started with a book called Thanksgiving Is For Giving Thanks by Margaret Sutherland. It gave the children many ideas of what to be thankful for. Some said mommy and daddy while others said my baby or even ice cream. This conversation gave the children a chance to learn and use their new vocabulary. This also allowed them to strengthen their self-esteem and feel comfortable speaking and sharing ideas in front of a group. Art this week was very exciting. While some children used the sorted nature items to create the beginnings of our class Hanukkiah, others painted pine cones and leaves. Many of the painted items were used to make our special “chandelier” that hangs above our art table. Come and take a look at all the children’s beautiful work. *REMINDERS* - Library mom Nov 19th Michelle - No School Nov 21-23 Thanksgiving - Pajama Day Monday Nov 26th - Shabbat girl Nov 30th Ayla - Class Hanukkah party Dec 5th at 9:30 (parents and children)
