March 20-24, 2017
Room 12 had a busy week learning all about our upcoming holiday, Passover. We introduced the new holiday by telling the story of Passover using the globe, pictures, and other props. The children learned that the story started in Egypt, which we showed them on the globe. Then, there were pictures of Egypt to get a clear idea of where the story took place. The children ate snack and listened carefully to the story. Paisley was greatly affected by the story and said, “That is not good!” in regard to the 10 plagues put on the Egyptian people. Then, the children learned about Matzah, the typical food eaten on Passover. They tried the unleavened bread and had mixed feelings about it. Ella liked that it was crunchy, while Noah said that it didn’t taste like anything. Kora only liked it when she put jelly on it. We will continue to go over the story throughout the next couple of weeks. The Share Day theme this week was to bring your favorite flower. It was so much fun to see the variety of flowers and flower items that the children brought to class. Elliot decided to draw a picture of flowers, Ayla brought small white roses, and Neda wore a flowered dress. The children practiced using descriptive words and expanding their vocabulary by discussing their flowers in front of their friends. It was the perfect Share Day in honor of the beginning of spring. Room 12 continued to exercise our minds by completing new table and floor puzzles. We were so impressed to see Michael and Kayden quickly complete the new space puzzle. The children have also been practicing using their fine motor skills by writing on dry-erase boards. In addition, they continue to practice their ability to draw a complete picture. Paisley took great pride in her ability to draw a happy face on the dry-erase board and then draw a “P” all by herself. On Monday, we will be collecting food for our Passover SOVA drive. Please send your child to school with an item to donate to the SOVA bin for Passover. We will visit the SOVA market as a class to donate these items. Items to include can be: Kosher for Passover canned goods, macaroons, Kosher for Passover Cereal, Matza, Gefilte Fish. We also want to thank Ayla’s family for joining us for Shabbat this Friday. We loved singing songs, prayers and eating challah with you all! Please check out our Room 12’s Google Drive for weekly pictures of all of our activities and fun!!
