Dear Parents,
We have had a Passover-filled week here in Room 12! The kids have become more and more familiar with the story through singing songs and discussing the story of the holiday. Our Dramatic Play center now includes Passover themed items such as King Pharaoh's hats and foods we typically eat during the Seder. Throughout the day, while the children are busy at play, we are hearing their conversations which are filled with vocabulary words associated with the holiday. For snack, we made matzah pizza and have been munching on matzah each day. Additionally, we are discussing Passover by building on our conversations and knowledge from previous weeks about our five senses. We are looking at the symbols, smelling the bitter herbs, hearing the songs and stories, touching matzah and tasting the various foods. The children have spent the week creating Passover themed art, which was also excellent fine motor skills practice and strengthened the small muscles in their hands. Using smaller paintbrushes than usual, the children made their own frogs, paying attention to details such as a red mouth and various shades of green on the body. Frogs are the only plague we discuss in this age group at Wise school, so you will notice many of our projects involve frogs. Frogs here, frogs there, frogs are jumping everywhere! The students also made charoset this week. We discussed the idea that sometimes different cultures have different recipes for the same food. We compared and contrasted some before making on which the students enjoyed more than they expected to. Additionally, we have been playing a Passover matching game that the students can play both individually and in teams. This game works on the children’s decision making speed, short term memory and pre-literacy skills. Thank you Hudson and Olive for serving as our Shabbat Boy and Shabbat Girl this week. It was a pleasure having each child's whole families here to celebrate. It is always so heartwarming to see the Shabbat Boy or Girl’s friends excited and happy for their friend to have a turn celebrating Shabbat in the classroom. Reminders: Please be sure to sign up for items to bring in for our Passover Seder, which is on Wednesday April 13th at 11:30 on the outdoor patio behind the Sanctuary. The sign-up sheet is located inside our classroom. We will be starting promptly at 11:30, therefore we are going to leave our room at 11:20. If you would like to meet us in the classroom and walk over with us, please be sure to be in our classroom by 11:20 or else please meet us on the patio. Also, Daditude is this Sunday April 10th at 9:15am. Have a wonderful weekend and we look forward to seeing everybody on Monday. Shabbat Shalom, Tatiana and Lashelle
