The week started out a little cold, but that never keeps Room 12 from doing all the fun things at school. Monday our class finished their stars of David for our Yom Ha'Atzmaut celebration. All the children were excited to know we'd be showing off our artwork at Temple on Shabbat.
Tuesday the winds blew hard and it was a little bit chiller. We worked on patterns and even went fishing for patterns. We read Sammy spider goes to Israel and talked about all the exciting, spiritual, cultural, and natural things we would see there. We all agreed floating in the Dead Sea would be so much fun, and the things we would wish for our friends, family, and the rest of the world at the Western Wall. On Wednesday we got to bake with room 13. We made chocolates with Israeli crackers and what a fun activity it was. I think everyone's favorite part was rolling the balls of chocolate in sprinkles, or it might have been eating them, I'm not sure. Later we had a discussion about how when we learn something new we build train tracks in our brain and how important it is to learn. The more train tracks we have, the more memory and smarter we become. Thursday was a big day. We weren't expecting rain, but it came for us anyway so all of our Yom Ha'Atzmaut activities took place inside. First, Rabbi Josh and Sari told us the story of the Two Brothers, then we were able to search for ancient artifacts, make juice on a Kibbutz, write a wish at the wall, and give ourselves facials with real dead sea mud. We had so much fun that when we came back to class we were so hungry for the amazing snack the parents organized for us to try. There was falafel, Israeli salad, olives, watermelon, pickles (the pickles were the first to disappear), pita, cucumbers, tzatziki, hummus, and orange juice. Everyone got to decorate their own cupcake with white frosting and blue sprinkles. We had some great naps Thursday afternoon. On Friday we celebrated Ryder's birthday along with Chanel's family for Shabat. It was so great to celebrate Israel's birthday at the Temple and celebrate Ryder in the classroom. Thank you so much to all the parents for their contributions!
