Welcome back and what a smooth and exciting day we had Monday. The children all came with smiles and lots of excitement to share. Mazel Tov to Blake and his family; Blake was quick to tell all of us that he will be a big brother this coming fall. Anja came in well rested, not that he sleeps in his own bed all night long. We can't forget Andy and Chloe's big girl beds; they have not given mommy and daddy any trouble going to sleep at night. Eli missed Monday; he had an accident and is using a scooter to get around.
Even though it felt like summer out this week, we have begun talking about spring and all the exciting things that happen in nature during the spring. Of course, we read one of our favorite books, The Very Hungry Caterpillar, by Eric Carle. This was our segway to our new additions in the classroom. We now have caterpillars and we will watch them as they grow, cocoon and turn into butterflies. The children are learning about the different stages of a Butterfly Life Cycle. We will also learn about how the butterflies help to pollenate the flowers. The children have shared their knowledge of bees, beehives and honey. We began making our own caterpillars at the art center. Monday was also Kids Gym. The children stretched out their bodies and did tumbling. There were a lot of giggles and claps. Everyone cheered on all their friends. We worked like a team of gymnastic tumblers together. Tuesday, Eli came back to school and showed everyone how he gets on and off his scooter and uses it to get around the room and the school. We went to the library; Taylor and her mom read, Today I Feel Silly, and Other Moods That Make My Day, by Jamie Lee Curtis. We really liked the book and as always, we love to go to the library and pick out books to read. The teachers took out books about Spring and Gardens for the classroom. We had a fun new project on the table Tuesday. We used Unit Blocks and Unit Mats. They help the children with spatial relations, critical thinking, math skills and engineering. Great use of a STEAM curriculum; age appropriate for 3-4-year olds. Wednesday was filled with Art, Play Dough and in class Library. We started out with our daily morning circle and the children had fun with letter sounds. Each of them trying to find words that start with different alphabet letters. Yom Ha'Atzmaut, Israel Independence Day has begun to show around our room. We have Israeli flags and spoke about the colors of the flag as well as, the Star of David, (A Jewish Star), that is on the flag. Next week we will be celebrating Israel Independence Day with an Explores party filled with different tastes of Israel. On the Play Dough table, they used rollers and number stamps. Some of the children used the pizza cutters to cut the numbers from the rolled-out dough. We finished our caterpillars with pompoms. They are now colorful and ready to take on the world. Maybe they will eat through oranges, strawberries and ice cream. We only hope they won't get too big like the caterpillar in our book. Thursday is usually Rabbi Josh and Andrew day. Rabbi Josh couldn't make it this week. We were all a little sad. However, smiling faces returned when we went to music with Andrew. We all danced and used egg shakers to practice rhythm. It was a lot of fun. In circle time we read, Dinosaur Goes to Israel. It was all about the Dinosaur, we meet him already in a Shabbat book, and his first trip to Israel. He went to the Beach and ate Falafel. Next week we will all get to eat Falafel too, yum. Thursday was a windy day and cold, but nothing keeps Room 12 inside. The children all ran around playing while the teachers tried to keep warm all bundled up. Shabbat is always our special time of the week. Challah baking after our Passover break was fun. Anderson's family came to celebrate with us. They filled us with delicious treats and yummy Challah. A surprise for all the children, we lost our power during rest time. When the children woke from sleep they were all OK. We explained to them that we had no power and all the moms, dad, etc. would be here soon, but there is a lot of traffic so we will all wait together. Pirates Booty followed that explanation, amazing how a little distraction with something yummy to eat can defuse any situation. Our first week back was a busy one and everyone was filled with smiles and laughter. Shabbat Shalom, Ren, Julia and Fern Reminders: Please remember to send in your Yom Ha'atzmaut food items on Wednesday Have your children wear Blue and White on Thursday and Friday next week, in honor of Yom Ha'atzmaut Shabbat Ema and Abba next week are Ryder and Chanel
