Dear Parents,
We hope that everyone had a wonderful week. It was a great week here at Wise school, beginning with our all school Havdalah service on Monday. We are very lucky that this school provides us with the beautiful temple to have our services, a lovely person, Brock, to lead the music, and Rabbi Josh for giving us a wonderful explanation of why we must cherish the beginning of the week. The children have improved their ability to maintain focus for longer periods of time. This results in more attentive listening and a new level of comprehension of what is going on in these services. Along with this, we have been reviewing some of the basic information that we learned this year about the Jewish holidays. It has been wonderful to see how the students have recalled so much information. We have studied the appreciation of nature through the holidays Sukkot and Tu B’Shevat while studying our surroundings using all of our senses. The students also learned about what having an order means from our Passover studies. They learned what order means in regards to organizing toys but also what it means in life to have routine and think about actions before making choices. This week has also been a continuation of our end of the year project, their Shabbat box. The students have continued adding many components to create a larger project. As we have begun finishing certain parts, the students have been introduced to various materials. We have been activating our senses with feeling different kinds of paint, scratch and sniff stickers to add another element to decorating the box, and materials that when manipulated make sounds that are familiar to them. The students have been talking about how excited they are to show their Shabbat Box to their families and use them. We have also been using some of our more advanced outdoor toys because of the children’s improved gross motor skills. We have been having them complete an obstacle course that includes tunnels, jumping over objects and hopping with two feet in a sack, which they loved. We also incorporated our senses into outdoor play by laying bubble wrap on the floor and having students remove their shoes to feel how the bubbles pop beneath their feet. Our sense of smell was activated when we took a walk to the temple and smelled flowers and our surroundings to see what adjectives the students came up with. Reminders: There is no school this upcoming Monday May 30th for Memorial Day. On Tuesday May 31st we have our discoverers picnic and ice cream party so please be sure to bring a topping of your choice. Next Wednesday June 1st is the last day of school and it is a full day ending at the usual time, 2pm. Thank you all so much for a great week and we look forward to seeing everybody next week. Shabbat Shalom, Tatiana and Lashelle
