May 8-12, 2017
Room 12 had a fabulous time celebrating our mommies, grandmas, and aunties. We started off our week by working on an art project with our moms. The children painted white boxes with different colors and used patience and concentration to not mix any of the colors. We enjoyed seeing the mommies and kids work hard to create beautiful boxes. We can’t wait for you to see the end result as a part of your Mother’s Day gifts. Skyler enjoyed doing sequencing puzzles with her mom, and Noah loved doing table top puzzles with his mom. Then, we had the moms join us in the classroom to make keychains with their children. We introduced patterns to the children and explained that a pattern is something that repeats itself. The moms helped their children create a pattern out of the beads to put on the keychain. Paisley made a pattern of pink and orange, and Kora made a pattern of pink and blue. Ayla made a more intricate pattern and repeated two green and one purple. Understanding patterns is just the beginning of life-long mathematical skills. It introduces mathematical language, as well as the idea of cause and effect. Learning the concept of patterns creates a foundation for both math and social development. The children begin to understand that there is a before and an after and this can repeat itself, both in math and in everyday life events. Over the next couple weeks, we will continue to work on patterning and see how it appears in everyday life. We also can’t wait for the mommies to see the final product of the pattern keychain we created. On Thursday morning, we surprised our mommies with “Breakfast at Tiffany’s in Room 12.” The moms were stunned at the beautiful breakfast spread set up for them to enjoy with their children. We loved watching the moms eat yogurt parfaits, fruit, and cinnamon rolls, drink sparkling apple cider, chat with their children and friends over breakfast, and read stories. We want to thank all of the moms for all you do for our classroom and your children. We could not do our job without all of you! Lastly, we want to thank Paisley’s family for celebrating Shabbat with us this Friday. We had a special all school Shabbat service this Friday, where the children got to enjoy singing and praying with their moms and grandmas. Seeing their eyes light up when they saw their mommies and grandmas walk into Temple to join us for services was the highlight of the week! We want to thank you all again for joining us all week long and hope you have the most wonderful and relaxing Mother’s Day.
