Back to school with only 4 days to fit in all that we do. Monday the EC staff had a very informative and educational Professional Development day. We were treated a workshop with Ellen Allrad giving us insight to the importance of music in all our classrooms. We took away songs and movements to enhance our room's music experiences.
We are so excited that Thanksgiving is just around the corner. The children are learning songs about turkeys and giving thanks to our family and G-d. We hope they will share these songs with you at the Thanksgiving table. The children are working on placemats for the feast we will be having in the backyard with all our Explorer friends. They worked very hard learning to use medicine droppers and tiny containers with water colors. Mixing and creating the colors of fall. We baked to chocolate chip pumpkin bread, it was a yummy treat. Most of the children participated the process and were very proud of their hard work. We talked a little about small, medium and large, by comparing our measuring cups. We also felt the difference between water and oil, even though they are both liquids. We also needed to follow directions because the ingredients must be place into the bowl in a certain order. Baking is a great way to introduce science and math. Invite your children to shop and cook with you, besides it is a wonderful way to spend quality time with little to no fuss over where to go and what to do. Speaking of pumpkins, the children started to talk about lights and cutouts on pumpkins. This discussion led us to the cutting open of one of the classroom pumpkins. We looked at the seeds and passed it around in order to smell the fresh pumpkin and canned pumpkin. We also looked at how hard the fresh pumpkin is on the outside and the inside. The canned pumpkin was mashed up because it had been cooked before it was canned. The children were not excited about roasting the seeds; we may try planting them and watching them grow over the next few months. We husked our own corn and baked yummy cornbread using fresh corn in the recipe. It gave a different texture to the cornbread. Can you believe we did all this and had a visit from Rabbi Josh and music with Andrew. Thursdays are our busiest day of the week. It is always nice to have Friday the follow day, as our class sets the mood with Shabbat, challah baking and free play in the room. This week Anderson was our Shabbat girls. She was all smiles and giggles with all the excitement. The class made rainbow Challah this week. All the children enjoyed mixing and learning to braid the Challah for Shabbat. Shabbat Shalom A few Reminders... The school is no longer allowing popcorn sent from home. It is too much of a choking hazard. If you haven't signed up to bring an item for our thanksgiving feast please do so. We have a few families that will be out of town so if you could bring an additional item it would be greatly appreciated. Next week we start our library visits. Ryder and his mom with be joining us on Tuesday morning before our big feast. We've gotten a lot better about toys in the cubby. Great job room 12 parents, thank you. No school next Wednesday, November 22nd .
