What a busy week room 12 had. We have been non-stop since Monday morning. Our work on understanding our 5 senses continues. The children have begun making a book about their senses. Picking out different pictures and stickers that they identify with each of the 5 senses. On our table this week we have all sorts of objects that feel different in our hands when we touch them.
Room 12 teachers and the children were so busy exploring and playing in class that we forgot about our monthly visit to the library. We are so sorry and now we have them on our phone calendars. Sorry to Audrey and Michelle. We will make it up with another library visit. We have been spending time learning about vertical, horizontal, and diagonal lines, getting ready to put these all together to make the shapes of the beginning letters in our friend's names. Curves and squiggly lines will be coming soon. It is such a treat during circle time in the morning to see the children recognize their friend's names without their pictures. They are also beginning to help each other spell out the names of all our friends. On Wednesday we were treated to pizza and yummy cupcakes in honor of Braden's birthday. All the children came home with fun straws to use at home. The children had so much fun that even after eating the yummy cupcakes, most of them were fast asleep at rest time. Thank you to Braden and Dalia for allowing us to be part of Braden's special day. Room 14 joined us in our room with Rabbi Josh, for a story about Abraham and how we welcome friends into our hearts and homes. We also did the days of the week song in Hebrew with him. Thursday is always busy because following Rabbi Josh we have music with Andrew. The children used drums and scarfs to simulate the falling of leaves and autumn sounds. Friday started out with the smell of fresh dough and lots of flour all over our hands and shirts. We hope you are enjoying the challah that the children are coming home with. This week Audrey was our Shabbat girl. It was so great to celebrate with her and her family. As part of our year curriculum in our class we are focused on self-help skills. Our sleeping bags are TOO BIG. We love that they're soft and snuggly, but they are very difficult to put away ourselves. Something small and easy to fold out be preferable, like the Urban Infant sleeping bag. Thanksgiving is coming up quickly. Please keep an eye out for a sign-up for the thanksgiving feast in the classroom. We are so excited to try new tasty foods. Just a few reminders... The boutique is open! Please stop by and see what wonderful things we are selling for the holidays. Only 32 shopping days left! We are still fighting all kinds of germs in room 12. It is so important to keep our friends home until they are completely well and ready to come back to school. If they come back to school and still appear to be sick we may ask for a wellness note from their doctor. We still have open spots for Shabbat and fruit sign up. With the cooler weather we're having a lot of jackets hung up outside. The kids are pretty good about knowing which is theirs, but we don’t want to mix them up, so please label their clothing. Please... please, please, leave toys at home or in the car. We can't keep track of them in cubbies and they're being taken out and played with by other classes during playtime on the yard. We understand these toys can be very special, and sometimes ease transitions, but they need to be left at home. Monday 11/13 is a holiday! No school! We'll see everyone back in school on Tuesday.
