What a great beginning to a new week we had. We welcomed our friend Aitana back from a 10-day vacation in Mexico City. The children also welcomed a new friend into our class, Anja fits right in. He came in all smiles and ready to be a part of room 12. We also started the week off with a fire-drill. They are always a surprise to us. Room 12 did an awesome job keeping together and walking all the way down to the lower field. This week has been a hot one and the children have been reminded every day to keep hydrated, drinking a lot of water especially during outside play time. Feeling like summer, we had a fun time with a lot of water play. Joining our friends in rooms 14 and 15. It was a fun way to cool off. We have continued learning about our 5 senses. This week we are experiencing hearing new sounds and even trying to identify them without seeing what things make what sounds. We read the book Polar Bear Polar Bear by Eric Carle, trying to make the sounds of all the animals in the zoo. Mr. Potato Head is also a very important part of our learning about senses. He has ears, eyes, nose, mouth and hands. Next week will go onto taste. Our first experience will be comparing Sweet Potatoes, White Potatoes and Yams. We may even try to make baked yams with pineapple and melted marshmallows. Promise not to allow the children to over-do the marshmallows, they are yummy when melted on top. We are now into the second week of jobs. The children are so excited to hear their new assignments for the week. We do get a little confused about changing jobs and some jobs seem to be more enticing then others. Water play seems to exhaust most of the children, we have noticed that at rest time they are sleeping soundly. Giving us time to plan for the week and for the Thanksgiving holiday. As part of the Thanksgiving holiday we have started our Thankful Jars. They will be filled with all the things the children have talked about what they are thankful for. Use them as conversation starters at your Thanksgiving tables. It is a wonderful way to tie Thanksgiving together with our Mitzvot and Tzedkah. Ryder and his family joined our Room 12 family for Shabbat. We are so happy to welcome the families of all our children. They children beam with pride knowing that on Friday they get to lead our family Shabbat. On Monday, the Shabbat child is always the line leader for the week and that is an important job. Reminders: **There has been a lot of runny noses and coughing in the classroom over the last few weeks. Please keep your child home for 24 hours after running a fever, vomiting or loose stool. Do not send them to school the following day. It is for their health as well as the health or the rest of the class. **Remember to bring your children in socks and sneakers. If you need to leave a pair of sneakers at school, we can change the shoes when they arrive. **Please make sure there are shorts under the girl's dresses and skirts.
